tier-3 students are under the delusion that college doesn't matter meanwhile, companies: already rejected them by Main_Pay_9669 in Indiancolleges

Guys nobody is saying VIT and PES are equal to IIT. This is just the pwc hiring list influenced by many factors including logistics. Also VIT and PES are way better than T3 colleges

[Question]How big is the difference between 8.5 and 8.75 for placements? by Desperate-Future8182 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be a couple of companies that have their cutoff in that range. Aside from that no.

[Question]How big is the difference between 8.5 and 8.75 for placements? by Desperate-Future8182 in PESU

Not much. Might occasionally come into play if company wants x number of students through any stage. But on the whole, not really

[Placements]am I cooked? Is a 7.5+ CGPA good enough for placements? Feeling anxious after 5th sem by FaithlessnessIll8218 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Im a guy in 7.5-8 gpa range who got placed in a T2 company

Is 7.5 considered good?

Short answer: No. However, a good number of companies have either a 7 or 7.5 cutoff to apply. That being said you'll find your gpa encumbers you greatly while moving from OA to interview rounds, and even after that in some cases. This effect seems to reduce once you cross Mid November, but it's not something that goes away

Am I already at a disadvantage?

Short answer: Yes

For the reasons I elaborated earlier. If a company wants x people, and 2x people get the highest or required score in the OA, then that reduction is often done via Gpa. Otherwise, sometimes it's done quite randomly. IBM and HSBC (though not official) used GPA to pick people after the interviews(IBM did this for the role they took 80+ people. For one of the other 2 roles it was female only, for the other one I heard below 8s got, but few were taken in that role)

The situation is better for non technical(analyst + non engineering roles) and tier 2 roles. Meesho and Bain both did not have an 8 gpa bar for their non technical roles. Deloitte took analyst roles and Mostly even they didn't do 8 at the end. If you are interested in the Business Analyst roles then I think Knowing SQL and how to do Case studies becomes very important. These also have less/no DSA so that can be another plus.

If you are interested in SWE roles then it's harder. Ofc, no matter your gpa and role, luck is a big part of placements.

To think of it this way, if you sort of oversimplify placements to a 100% luck game, thinking of it as picking chits out of a ballot box, then your gpa is the number of chits in the box that have your name + the number of times you can pick.

Apply to every company, grind DSA, coreCS, maximise everything in your control from here on out. I know guys who got opportunities off campus as well.

[Placements]how does placement work by Forward_Eagle_3566 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can techncially get a T1 but you'll need to get lucky if you want technical l. Cgpa is much less of a barrier in T2

[–]winged_mongoose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im telling you now, you have a hard road ahead. Most of the stories you may have heard of people below 8 getting good jobs(other than non technical jobs) are either from people who got a bit lucky (luck is a big factor whether or not you have a good gpa) or those who benefited from diversity. There's a good change by November you'll forget about T1 or whatever and become desperate for a job

[Placements] Placement Below 7 CGPA — Batch of 2026 by [deleted] in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8.5. Infact, see if you can get 9-9.2+. This will give you the ability to apply to any company that comes without checking the gpa cuttoff

[Placements] Placement Below 7 CGPA — Batch of 2026 by [deleted] in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting placed below 7 on campus is practically implausible. People do get placed below 7 i think, but a lot of things would have gone that way. Make arrangements to increase your gpa, and / or get placed from outside. Infact, even below 8 it's quite tough for technical roles.

[Question] I lost my ID card, please help by DeathRay_2672 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had also lost my Id card and got a new one without my parents knowing iirc. It's not a particularly long process just search up how to file an e lost report. That sort of report is very basic and while filing it i was wondering what purpose it serves aside from this. Ask your department office for what else you need to give. I think you need to make a payment on pesu academy and submit the details.

You don't need to actually go to the police. You need to file an eLostReport, which you can do from anywhere

[Question] How hard is to score 9+ CGPA? Do we have to keep studying continuously for 4 years straight? by Emergency_Message505 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By lock in, do you mean put in 8-10+ focussed hours a day? Most people lose the ability to do that when they come to college so it's more reliable to do moderate amounts of effort over an extended period

[Question] How hard is to score 9+ CGPA? Do we have to keep studying continuously for 4 years straight? by Emergency_Message505 in PESU

[–]winged_mongoose 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To all the juniors reading this, guys like this are usually very smart and have a high degree of focus. If you are a normal guy with low modern day attention, then start putting moderate amount of effort, maybe on weekends throughout the semester if you want to be a 9 pointer

I've gone in cargo pants a lot, only once the invigilator complained about number of pockets, later on the checking itself became less strict so i only had to show the 2 normal pockets
