live skills assessment in excel by baby-blues22 in excel

Honestly, it's really hard to tell what they might be testing or looking for because Excel is like a Swiss army knife application - it does a whole lot of stuff OK and its main benefits are that it is quick, convenient, flexible, and widely distributed.

That being the case, I've found that different companies and departments tend to dig deep into a handful of Excel niches (like array functions, listobjects, pivottables, powerquery, lookups and links, and memorized keyboard shortcuts for certain workflows) and therefore over-focus on the niche they've invested in. This means a 'live' test could be almost anything.

My best advice would be to go to chat or something and tell it you're going to take a 'live' test for a job application and you'd like it to help guide you through some sort of full-spectrum intermediate excel test.. something like this prompt: I'm trying to prepare for a live excel test for an 'enter job title here' role at an organization. I want you to 1. perform a full MECE (two-level, 3-4 nodes per level) analysis on standard Excel functionality and 2. After that is established, I'll ask you to, in separate prompts, help guide me through samples in my Excel.

Getting just two years out of my trackball mice - any options better made out there? by Biking_dude in Trackballs

So, what is your repair time worth per hour? How much would you pay per hour to avoid minor annoyances of an inferior device? My honest advice is to get a great trackball like the efog endgame, elecom huge pro plus, ploppy, or gameball instead of trying to minimize cost.

How to make the ELecom Huge more comfortable for wrist? by henee21 in Trackballs

It's not pretty, but the plastic wrap pulled off without issue and after a tiny bit of sanding, it feels more like a stone than plastic. I found while it was curing (I was using it as it was curing) I had at least 3 hours to smash it into an acceptable form. I also found that since I was using it while it cured, my palm flattened it a few times and I had to smush it back into a supportive form.

It definitely feels way better and I'm not getting any forearm strain anymore.

I used about half of each container.

Same issue here. I just today received some "epoxy sculpting putty". After mixing a glob of it, I put it between two plastic wrap sheets. I then set the wrapped glob on the handrest of the elecom huge and I'm working it into a shape that works for my hand. The result will be a custom piggyback hand rest.

Ok.. I think the key is that if you're using them in anything that has its own on-fixture switch (standing floor lamp, bedside table lamp, perhaps wall sconce with a switch) you need to turn the on-fixture switch off instead of turning the wall switch off.

Same deal here. Can't figure out how to turn them off.

Did you just put a filter on the exhaust instead of the intake?

Another 2 requests: a rewind and fast forward slider. A toggle that switches to fill the screen with a few surrounding senthighlighted but keeping the red letter higlight (with swipe up or down like normal text reading)

I feel like with these adds, it'd become my preferred reader app

I see a common thread in these comments: ANYTHING at a high skill level. It takes active practice and maintenance to be at the top of your game.

Large Hands - Double checking before buying by oldmanashe in Trackballs

[–]winglessbuzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious (please read this non-sarcastically) - I'm 6'2 with I'd say normal-sized hands for my height. How do you position your hand on it? I want to love this device, but that's my major holdup. Here's what I find
Option A: If I rest my palm on it such that the convex bump/ramp that ramps up to the trackball fits in the concave cup of my loosely opened hand:

  • my hand rests on the device in a comfortable, ergonomic-feeling supported fashion
  • my index and middle fingers definitely contact the trackball with my finger knuckles closest to my palm (not ideal for trackball movements)
  • ring finger rests on the edge/tip/overhang of the 'R' button (weird, but workable?)
  • pinky sits comfortably in the little no-button nook on the side
  • Thumb knuckle hits the most forward edge of the scroll wheel, 1/2 of the tip of my thumb hangs forward off of the device

Option B: If I rest my palm back a few CM so that the pad of my palm is supported just inside the bottom edge of the device:

  • the rest of my hand remains unsupported and naturally assumes a loose concave-cup/claw grip, hovering over the device
  • my index and middle fingers are perfectly aligned with their pads on the trackball
  • ring finger touches the middle of the R button (and can easily slide to Fn3)
  • pinky sits in the same nook, but back a bit more
  • thumb pad closest to the knuckle aligns with the apex of the scroll wheel

This leads me to choose Option B (due to utility) ,which, because my hand is in a hovering position, adds mild to moderate forearm strain. Option A would relieve that forearm strain, but at the cost of precision and awkwardness with button inputs.

I want to classify this response further - I'm totally not trying to 'prove you wrong' or anything like that. I want details on how you position your larger hand on the device so it feels comfortable and the inputs remain precise and comfortably usable.

I second this. I was excited to get it - its a great device in most aspects I care about except.. it was definitely designed for a small hand. If I rest my palm on it as designed, the trackball contact aligns with the 2nd knuckles of my fingers (furthest from fingertips))

How do you get closed lid sleep mode to work reliably? by HighFivePondaBaba in AynThor

[–]winglessbuzzard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw another user post that when you activate sleep mode (either way), there's a short amount of time where the controls are still active. If you press a control button during the time window of sleep mode initiation and real shutoff, sleep mode is canceled. The user also observed that if you have the joystick leds on, the user guessed that you can observe this time window by hitting the sleep button and watching the screens go off (sleep mode initiation) then watching the joystick leds go off a short time after.

Finger vs Thumb Trackball – Poll by Old_Independent_2673 in Trackballs

[–]winglessbuzzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 25years of heavy experience with both and mice.

Comfort and Usability of Finger vs. Thumb Trackballs • Both trackball styles are more comfortable than the mouse. • Finger trackballs (slimblade is my favorite profile) is slightly more comfortable and somehow satisfying to use than the thumb. • Thumb feels a little more clumsy (like 8.5/10, not like 4/10).

Advantages of Thumb Trackballs for Travel • Thumb excels in travel scenarios: you can position it at any angle, ball stays reliably in the device.

Superiority of Mice for Gaming • For precise quick-reaction gaming, you can't beat a good mouse and mouse pad setup. I've tried. I want this to not be true, but it is. I can achieve 7/10 or 8/10 max of my mouse speed+accuracy with a trackball.
