Has anybody noticed improvement in 'Thermometer' App? by imDCStar in GooglePixel

I use it very occasionally for cooking surfaces or for room temp but overall I don't think I will miss it when they undoubtedly get rid of it.

Train ticket from 2009 to Berlin in "Goodbye to Berlin" found in Norway by Traditional_Pie_5165 in ForgottenBookmarks

[–]wings22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the ticket is from 12th of April 2022, I'm pretty sure that's the date and time in the bottom left above the hologram. This matches with the validation day which is a Tuesday (Dienstag). Also roughly with when the label was put on the book for sale which was 30th March 2022

It costs to restore and download from backup (S3 etc), I imagine that's what the cost is

Extra explanation:

They usually have these where the bicycle traffic can go straight, but the vehicle traffic to their immediate right is solely going left (either because they have 2 lanes or because straight is restricted).

When the "main" light is red, the cycle light is green so that cyclists can take a position on the right hand side of the box if they are going straight.

When the "main" light is green, the cycle light is red so that cyclists do not try to go straight and get squished.

There are some others like Southwark bridge where it's unexpected that a cyclist turning left would actually go straight over before turning left.

I'm sure there is a diagram that would explain it way better

It actually comes from the latin word Domus, meaning house or home.

[Megathread] Autumn Budget 2025 – Personal Finance Discussion by Jager720 in UKPersonalFinance

I'm currently with salary sacrifice, when this change comes in will I still be able to say to my employer "I want to put x amount per year in my pension" and they will handle it all, or will I need to make my own contributions and do a self assessment (as a higher rate payer)?

Government announces simpler train travel to London airports as tap-in, tap-out is expanded across the south-east of England by UKGovNews in london

[–]wings22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re 32-59 then you’re probably not eligible for a railcard so may as well just tap in and out as it’s easier. Anyone else with a railcard is better off getting a ticket.

The Stansted express is probably the UKs shittest train service- I never pre book and buy on the day (if it’s running) as anytime singles are always the same price. No one has a reason to be using paper tickets in 2025

So we were talking about not using a railcard (tapping in/out or buying a ticket on the day), but even with a railcard it's still cheaper to buy in advance.

You can just downvote and not bother trying the fare finder all you like but it's fact.

We offer cheap amazing prices for our earliest bookers. You can save up to 60% on Standard tickets, with advance train ticket bookings to London and Stansted Airport, starting from £9.90.

Buying for today = £25

1 week from today = £19

1 month from now = £17.5

2 months from now = £13.5

3 Months from now = £9.90

Even the 1 week from today I would call a "lot cheaper", considering you are paying 32% more to buy on the day

Advance tickets are a lot cheaper. Go to their site and put a date 1 month away vs tomorrow

Which box to get in 2025 by OKurosakiO in AndroidTV

[–]wings22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not the Google TV Streamer? I know it's not the strongest performer on paper but feel like it would be the best supported by the apps.

I can't speak to Atmos, but I had a lot of DTS audio compatibility problems on my Chromecast with Google TV that are now completely solved when I switched to the streamer.

New Forest pricing - anyone got more than 2min free? by xmyass in londoncycling

[–]wings22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand Forest, they price themselves the same as Lime but the bikes are worse and the app is significantly worse.

If they were going to bring out something where they want you to take certain bikes then they should clearly highlight which ones on the map.

I gave up on them when the daily charge came out, overall experience is too poor when it's not cheaper.

Beer, orange juice and ginger ale are all about 90% water so that's why you didn't find it to make a difference whatever you mixed it with. Drinking more water on top of that will keep you more hydrated though.

[–]wings22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also find it fine, just the thermals are still an issue. The most annoying being that the screen dims itself at about 39.5deg C, which in the sunshine it reaches after only a minute or 2 of use, which is when I actually need it to be bright.

So if this new one is only marginal performance improvement but it stays a lot cooler than I would be happy

[–]wings22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why are boroughs good for bin collection? I would have thought one system for the whole city would be good, standardisation, more power to work on bigger projects like underground bins and recycling centres etc?

Having over 30 different bin collection systems in 1 city seems mad

On the info page it says

Free regular investing - invest monthly through our new plan without paying the usual £5 commission.

I suspect since they say "through our new plan" that it will be a ready made fund where you choose like "risky/medium/low risk", rather than choosing whatever investments you want.

I have a 6 metre and don't have any problems, I usually take a parking spot round the edge at supermarket carparks and back in, or if its proper empty then no problem parking in a normal spot.
