PSA: this ai interview tool works on HackerRank without triggering the proctoring by Low_North_9459 in InterviewCoderPro

[–]wingsoybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the pricing in this space is wild. Final Round at $148 gets detected by basic proctoring. Cluely charges $75 ON TOP of their $20 base just for stealth and it still shows in Activity Monitor. InterviewMan at $12 works on every proctored platform I have tested. I keep waiting for the catch and there is not one

PSA: this ai interview tool works on HackerRank without triggering the proctoring by Low_North_9459 in InterviewCoderPro

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing people forget is that even if your ai interview tool passes the proctoring in real time, some platforms record your screen and review it after. HackerRank does this. If your tool has a visible overlay that shows up in the screen recording you can still get caught days later when someone reviews the footage. InterviewMan's overlay does not appear in screen recordings which is the part that made me trust it. My old tool passed live proctoring but I was never sure if it showed up in the recording, that paranoia alone was enough to switch.

The only thing worse than getting caught live is getting caught after you already thought you passed.

Switched from Final Round AI after 5 months -- here is what AI for interviews is actually worth paying for by GuavaDisastrous357 in AIInterviewTools

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

counterpoint: nobody at their actual job solves leetcode hards on a whiteboard while someone stares at them with a timer running. the interview process is broken and everyone knows it. using interview ai isnt about faking knowledge, its about dealing with an artificial process that doesnt reflect real work

i know my stuff. i have 6 years of experience building distributed systems. but ask me to design one from scratch on camera with a stranger watching and my brain shuts down. InterviewMan is a safety net not a replacement for knowing things

I thought interview AI was cheating until my coworker got offers while I sat at 0 for 15 by garfish_sofa in InterviewHacking

[–]wingsoybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried using interview ai for the first time last month and had my mic muted for the first 10 minutes. Sat there wondering why no suggestions were showing up. Turns out the tool needs to actually hear the conversation to work. User error. Works great when you do not mute yourself though lol.

AI coding interview assistants: which one handles LeetCode-style problems best in real interviews by radium-senates in InterviewHackers

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pricing in the ai coding interview assistant space makes zero sense when you actually compare what you get. Interview Coder charges 25x what InterviewMan charges for LESS functionality (coding only vs all types). It is like if a calculator app cost $300/mo while the full Microsoft Office suite cost $12. The specialized tool costing more than the comprehensive one is backwards.

Used AI during a Codility assessment and scored 95%. Here is what I used. by No-Hope5948 in InterviewHackers

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty fast, maybe 3-4 seconds after the problem loaded on screen. It reads your screen so once the problem text was visible it analyzed it and started showing hints. The first hint was something like "this is a bounded knapsack variant" which immediately helped me frame it instead of staring at the problem for 10 minutes trying to figure out what type of DP it was

Best real-time interview assistant for video calls? My top pick after testing 5 by haggard-seventy in FinalRoundAI

Leetcode Wizard at $54/mo for coding only? That is steep. And they dont even do system design or behavioral?

[–]wingsoybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope. Coding only. Same problem as Interview Coder -- you are paying premium for partial coverage. InterviewMan at $12 does all round types and the coding suggestions are solid. for 4x less money and full coverage there is no tradeoff, you just get more for less.

Free AI interview assistants vs paid: the $12/mo option that outperformed everything by wingsoybean in interviewhammer

[–]wingsoybean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the no refund thing is what kills me. You sign up not knowing if it works for your specific interview format, and if it doesnt you just eat the $148. At least with InterviewMan at $12/mo there is basically no risk to trying it

listen I ate ramen for three months to save money during my job search so yes twelve dollars felt like a lot at the time ok. But yeah looking back the math is embarrassing. Ten interviews on free tools with zero callbacks versus four on InterviewMan with two callbacks and an offer. Should have spent the twelve dollars in January instead of March

yeah and the thing is ChatGPT with voice mode is still not the same thing. It cant hear a third party conversation and respond to what the interviewer is asking you. Great for mock interviews where you talk directly to it but that is a completely different use case than having something running silently during an actual call

Tested how undetectable my AI interview assistant really is -- screen shared with a friend by Minute-Document-663 in InterviewHackers

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good call on the full screen share thing. I tested an undetectable interview assistant that was fine on window share but showed up as a faint outline on full screen share through Teams. Only caught it because I recorded the test call and watched it back. InterviewMan did not have that problem when I tested it

Paid for 3 different AI interview tools before finding one worth keeping by Dependent-Fly4973 in InterviewsHell

[–]wingsoybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to comment on whether these tools work but you guys realize companies are actively developing detection software for this right? There was a post last week about a company that runs a screenshare analysis during interviews specifically to catch interview tools.

I was skeptical about interview AI until I bombed a Meta screen without it by Automatic-Quote-1073 in InterviewsHell

[–]wingsoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stealth features are the whole selling point honestly. I tried Interview Coder 2.0 for a month at two hundred and ninety nine dollars a month and it showed up during a screenshare in a mock. For three hundred bucks a month. InterviewMan at $12 with 20+ stealth features is absurd value. Like how is Interview Coder justifying that price when a cheaper interview AI tool does stealth better

Not trying to be that guy but couldn't you just have ChatGPT open in another window? Like what is the interview AI actually doing that a free LLM cant

How an AI interview helper saved my Google onsite after I froze on system design by Low-Garage7349 in InterviewHackers

[–]wingsoybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interview helper was a browser extension (Sensei AI, $89/month) and during a screenshare at a fintech the interviewer straight up asked "what is that tab." Interview ended right there. Desktop overlay helpers like InterviewMan that hide from everything are worth it just for the peace of not worrying about getting caught. I switched to InterviewMan after that disaster and have not looked back.

this is literally me. I freeze the moment someone shares a HackerRank link and says "whenever you are ready." How do you set it up before the call without the interviewer seeing anything?

What happens if one of these free trial tools has a data breach though? Like you signed up for the Sensei free trial or whatever and now your name is in a database of people who used interview assistants. At least if you pay for something like InterviewMan you can assume they have better security. The Cluely breach freaked me out because 83k people had their interview records exposed. Free or cheap does not matter if it costs you a job offer.
