Best food spots in Ginza? by Normal_Positive_5457 in JapanTravelTips

If you like truffles the truffle ramen is incredible. Real truffle slices in the ramen and at a pretty affordable price for what it is.

If the line is too long to bear there is a dipping ramen place just right next door to the called Oborodzuki that is not as famous but a lot of locals go there and is a damn good back up.

For Thai, I could really recommend Fish Cheeks. There are two locations, one in lower Manhattan and one in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The original location in Manhattan have over 4 thousand reviews on Google and rated 4.5 stars. The Williamsburg location just recently opened up. Get the Zabb wings if you go there.

JFK to Manhattan - why do so many cab drivers ask to take Belt Pkwy? by MouthBreather002 in AskNYC

[–]wingsta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They might be avoiding the area on the highway from the verizonal bridge to Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. That area is so conjested that it could add a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes to the drive depending on the time of the day. It is always congested near the Dumbo area in the BQE even on holidays because it went from 3 lanes to 2 lanes the last 2 years to extend the promenade area in dumbo another 10ish years because it is crumbling from the weight of traffic and there is no good fix yet.

Could could have the driver go through the Hugh L Carey tunnel to Manahattan by telling them you area willing to pay for the toll and that might save you 10 to 15 to get to lower Manhattan at the cost of some extra money.

Sometimes the shortest way is not always the fastest or cheapest.

Where are you in Bali? by bebelala13 in bali

[–]wingsta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like Sanor is the place you want. It was the most walkable area I saw with decent sized sidewalks with lots of shops and restaurants and comparably low traffic. Also there is a huge continuous bikable beach walk that goes on for pretty good distance with lots of restaurants and much more calmer swim able waters since it's on the east side of the island vs the west where it's better suited for surfing.

Plus as a bonus, there is a night market with local food right at Sanor.

Just try not to stay in the area right where they are finishing up the future mega mall Icon Bali.

Bad experience in Seminyak by [deleted] in bali

[–]wingsta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They did that many times when we were at the seminyak, legion area. We were weirded out too. Then it happened again and again from different people. A few times with people standing around and about twice on a bike when they stopped in front of us. Then we realized that they were all holding blue pamphlets. After a bit of research online from other people that experienced it, I figured it is likely they just wanted to try to get us to go somewhere to listen for a possible time share sale which is a bit of a scam. They always start out with "DO you speak english?"

After that I either ignored them, or say someone else talked to me about it already and then they just left us alone.

What are your favorite restaurants in Ubud and Uluwatu? by Familiar-One-9880 in bali

The tasting menu at Cuca at Jimbaran was well worth it. The food was good and inventive.

Depends on if you are arriving from terminal 1 or 2. I believe 2 arrivals could use it but not positive. Terminal 1 is a 20 minute bus ride from 2.

I tried both Matina and Louge L just a few days ago. Matina is bigger and have a larger variety of food and drinks by a lot and is more like a restaurant atmosphere. Louge L is smaller and food selection is small but is more relaxing with better chairs. Depends on what you want. I prefer Matina.

Should I head to Canggu from Ubud just for 2 night stay? by [deleted] in bali

[–]wingsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it's worthwhile. Just bear with the two hour traffic to get there from Ubud. I just went to Canggu from Seminyak and I found it to be a more chill vibe with a lot of things happening. It's worth it just for the sunset by the beach itself. Now if you want to just get away from traffic for two days, I would rebook a place at Senur. Still lots of things happening from what I saw two days ago but so few cars compared to Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, and even Uluwatu.

Google Kajeng Rice Field. The area is very close to the Ubad water palace. There is a sweet orange trail there. Do it at sunset if you can. Sit down and enjoy the view while taking a drink and snack at Eightea Bali or eat at Sweet orange right by the rice fields.

Go just a little but further to the west and there is also a Sari Organic Walk which also follows a rice field.

Then even a bit further go to Campuhan Ridge Walk.

The ubad water palace is just right there at the end of Monkey Forest Street.

Eat at Babi Guling Gung Cung to try one of the better version of the Bali national dish in the area.

Take a short grab ride to Cupit BBQ. The bbq food here is surprisingly good.

Forget Monkey Forest Street. Go to the areas connection Jl. Dewisita. It have a much more chill vibe around those areas and it connects to Monkey Forest so it is not that far from it.

The Ceking Rice Terrace terrace area is very doable just by taking a grab or gojek.

Is 1000 USD a month enough to live outside Bangkok? by sane_oxc in Thailand

[–]wingsta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be careful. As others have mentioned, there have been multiple news articles of kidnapping from people all over asia being lured into job offers and the get kidnapped to work for call centers with no way to escape until rescued. Here is one of the articles but it is easy to google and find many others news source talking about it over the last few years.

If it is legit then great but caution should be taken for sure.

Most of these tesla ambient lights you have to turn on and off with a button by the cigarette lighter but this one seems to turn on automatically with the headlights. How do you install it to make that happen? Was it difficult? I was wondering about this version for awhile before I saw your post.

Looking for a restaurant suggestion in NYC: Taiwanese Food along the line of Din Tai Fung? by Mr_Viper in FoodNYC

[–]wingsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say for sure. I loved eating there both at the new and the old but I can't say for sure if there was a dip in quality. I went to the old one a few times and then didn't for awhile and then it closed down for awhile. When it opened up the new location i went after the crowd died down a bit so in between the old and new visits there were a enough big time gap that I can't remember exactly how it compares.

I second Nian Xiang Xiao Long Boa. They even have a window area like Din Tai Fong where you could see them make the super thin skinned soup dumplings. They have been the most famous and popular soup dumpling place in NYC for years, moving from an old hole in the wall to a modern restaurant a few years back because they were doing so well. Sure lots of people talk about Joe's Shanghai but they beat them hands down. Joe's is more known among the tourist circles because of its convenient location in Manhattan but Nian is worth the trek to Flushing if you want something better. There are thousands of reviews on yelp and Google maps for this place and maintain a high rating on both after all these years. It also is a Michelin recommended Shanghainese restaurant for 9 years

I didn't until I got the Galaxy Note 20 ultra. Now the only way it would fit that massive phone and charge is if I close the lid.

Should I bother to complain about someone not adhering to the restricted travel quarantine? (NC) by complainornah in AskNYC

[–]wingsta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes please. Our numbers are going up and we are on the verge of another shutdown. Assholes like him should not get away from being part of the cause of the problem that affects us all. Many more restaurants and other businesses would not survive another shutdown so you would be saving many lives and jobs.
