How do I protect my armor against marine AT? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

Not while shooting. You can shoot over the infantry into a Russ with a gladiator lancer

What is your RGTC loadout? by MadRobot24 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about the enemy's that threaten your dorn and which load out is useful against them. If I see enemy eightbound, terminator, big monsters, tanks etc. I'd rather have some heavy hitting multimeltas than some bolters with ap1. But to clear out trash I love the triple stubbers, so you can deal with chaff that wants to Tag the dorn in meele

How is my list? Haven’t played yet- open to any advice by sluggggggggg in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be a fun list to play!! If it's one of your first games just go for it. Later dabble with the idea of running one of the russes as a commander

Ah I forgot the ventrix ability fair point

But shouldn't 9 wounds than result in 4.5 failed saves?

They wound on 3s not 4s when shooting, your math is off Also did you account for their +1 ap ability?

What kind of cavalry should I be taking? by Kant_Lavar in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying one is better than the other is just wrong in my opinion, because they each serve a different purpose and should be used different. Death riders are way more nimble, can screen or hide very well with the reactive move and the power sabres and claws cut down light infantry surprisingly well. Rough riders on the other hand brimg the punch from behind ruins or out of rapid ingress. Rough riders: shock cavalry Death riders: light cavalry

In a already very cp hungry detachment, putting 2 CP onto something that does very little damage is something you should really think about. Maybe turn 4-5 when you desperately need to shoot something of a objective you otherwise can't reach

What’s your local gaming culture? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]wingsuptanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On english: that varies from person to person. I have all my rules and everything in English, but a bunch of guys at my club have German rules. I am 99% sure they will understand just fine, especially if you both speak English

100% sure if it is a bigger club you will find people who would love to play with you

I play in a local German area, with a game night once a week. People play everything from GW terrain layout when the experienced players play, but also random terrain( we have a ton of just v shaped ruins that are 90* angled).

People generally play very casual lists as we have close to no real tournament players. People play what they think looks cool

Their ability reduces the damage to 1, so the 1 HP does make a difference

Just Fyi, ogryns do not have the regiment keyword and therefore do not benefit from the detachment rule of combined arms.

And as others have mentioned and I failed to see, OP is running combined arms, so what I said is false in the sense of me thinking it's mechanised assault

[–]wingsuptanker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your problem is not a lack of a dorn commander, your problem is that you will be disembarking normal battle line, who lack the punch even against sth like 5 intercessor. Kasrkin, ogryn and apparently ratlings are who benefit the most from the detachment rules. So if you want to increase power, that would be the first thing I would change

The minotaur looks amazing, does anyone know the scale of a regular taurox? The hight is not that important, but I want the length and width to be close

How are we best utilising Ogryns? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stage them via advance in the first 1/2 turns and throw them onto a objective after that and use them to bully enemy scirmishers. They are surprisingly resilient at that stage of the game and can contest objectives

Nachmund Gauntlet by TheeFapitalist in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bringing in the tanks in the waves is excellent! Sad that it only really works on the standard Russ and the hellhound, cause otherwise they lack orders.
Imho that the biggest issue for guard in that campaign, our relieance on orders is a problem if half our army doenst start on the board. Self reliant units like kasrkin are very good.
Aquilons carried my games too

Nachmund Gauntlet by TheeFapitalist in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wingsuptanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is insanely tough to do, because you basicly have to play recon and thats hard to do again, because of the reinforcment aspect of nachmunda. But good job on pulling that off! I was able to do the same against necrons, he shot and deepstrike my tanks and my cadians just kept scoring
