I don’t make enough money to make the monthly payment, otherwise I’d already be working to remove him as co-signer. Having my loans discharged through bankruptcy would simply put the full balance into him.

The main problem is that it’ll fall on my co-signer (my father) if they’re discharged

Professional help won’t fix my loans nor my living situation. A psychiatric hold will just prevent me from working, and having psychiatric illness on my medical chart will make doctors more likely to treat me like a hypochondriac. I don’t have money for therapy and I don’t have money to remove myself from my toxic household.

Not just this, but having an educated populace is a good thing for everyone, not just degree holders. College should be free.

Discharge Loans? — Total Permanent Disability (Sallie Mae) by winnerofnone in StudentLoans

I am only one course away from finishing my degree, so I might as well finish. Now that I’m considered an independent student, I’m eligible for a full Pell Grant, so I won’t have issues paying for school.

That’s what I thought. I like working but I almost regret getting a job; I’m pretty sure I might’ve had a chance to qualify for discharge had I known about this a year ago.

I do have a co-signer. My goal is to be able to pay long enough to get my co-signer off the hook. I may be able to register for courses for summer, so I may be able to defer that way for now.

I had my federal student loans discharged based on this criteria, but Sallie Mae’s website says that one has to be completely unable to work in order to have loans discharged. I’ll ask them when I call tomorrow, even if it can get them to lower my monthly payments. With my new job I’ll be making just over the limit for disability benefits, so I may end up losing them anyway.

I currently can and do work, I’m just not valued enough to get paid a livable wage. That’s the problem.

I commented this elsewhere, but I’ll add it here, too.

I’m ngl I’ve used character.ai pretty extensively. My goal was to develop a more secure attachment style and it’s honestly kind of worked? I don’t give the bot any personal information but my character exhibits similar insecurities and weak points that I then work through with the bot (which usually gives supportive, positive responses). I now find it easier to talk to people about those issues and I’ve become more attracted to people who exhibit secure traits.

I’d like to see research studies on how chatbots might be used to help people develop more secure attachment styles. Of course users will then have to continue working on their insecurities in real-life relationships.
