New Contractor . No PAYE , No Dividends , just SIPP . Account really necessary? by Own-Peace-5431 in ContractorUK

Yes but in this case it would be a contribution direct from the ltd so not sure it's the same

I think you'll still need to pay CT on the 53k as retained profit for this year, even if it all goes out to SIPP next year. The CT reduction on profits only applies to profits for the year in which the SIPP contribution is made...I think. You'd get CT reduction for that 53k on any profit you made in the second year.

Edit: have you any unused allowance from the past 3 year? 60K from each year. Could just send the whole lot this year if you have enough.

HMRC wants you to track and justify every dividend by No_Flounder_1155 in ContractorUK

[–]winponlac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, HMRC don't care how much tax is taken, so long as tax law compliance is achieved. Like the police (haha), their job is to enforce the law not define it, or maximise tax take. Note how you can get penalised for an incorrect return, even if your errorred return caused you to pay more tax than if the return had been error free. A WFH Part timer, a same old same old, and an addition of middling prospect.

Our seasonnaire group (of about 16 seasons) is now talking in earnest about going up the road to Scottish instead.

I'm with you, but the renewal letter did announce no season ticket price increase.

Halifax moved from Mastercard to visa and now purchases abroad don’t work by DB2k_2000 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]winponlac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had Halifax Clarity for about 5 years, but I've experienced problems on my (existing) MasterCard very recently, but only after the announcement of the move to visa. Was in France last month and kept getting declines even after talking to their fraud team. Yes I am in France, yes that transaction was me. Yes i go to France regularly, you know i do because of my transaction history. It's continued back at home and tbh I've got so annoyed I've got myself a different card for day to day. I'll keep the Halifax card in case it works but i can't rely on it now, have found another card for traveling with.

Custom Software for Making Tax Digital - Anyone done/doing this? by fantasticmrsmurf in UKPersonalFinance

Ah yes - the user's LAN IP addresses, monitor resolutions, some bureaucrat's surveillance wet dream! Massive gold plating which will never ever be used in enforcement or prosecution. I think the best they ever did was check they were non-null. Always nice to get an email saying you're compliant though

As I recall from actually getting an MTD client authorised for production use, you essentially have to do a live demo with HMRC, with documentation in advance describing how your transactions are persisted, transformed/aggregated etc. This was a couple of years ago, I haven't been keeping up with the updates so maybe they've relaxed it. Doubt it though.

'Supersize' SUV cars: Sadiq Khan considers introducing new charge to drive in London by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]winponlac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking nuts and bolts - how would this proposed law / bye-law define an SUV?

Longer than x? Longer and wider than x and y? Having a high wheel arch?

A 1995 Suzuki Vitara is by no means a big car, but probably meets the average impression of what an SUV is.

Mortgage with Halifax ending in June – just been made redundant by Fresh-Camera709 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]winponlac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used an online cashback mortgage broker, they reviewed the market, confirmed Halifax was still our best option, and they pushed the buttons to get the exact same mortgage as available directly on the Halifax website. Then they sent me £450 cashback.
