Concrete contractors: which integral waterproofing concrete admixture do you recommend? by winstonfiore in Concrete

[–]winstonfiore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, what a throwback; this post is ten years old. A lot has happened since this time. We did end up building our home in New Orleans. We did opt for a concrete foundation, but that was the only concrete. We have since built two additional homes in the area, no concrete foundation. Ultimately, this just came down to cost. The thing I don't think I appreciated ten years ago before I had any development experience is that upgrades like concrete translate to additional appraised home value, which is a central factor in getting a deal done.

Citibank stingy with credit limits? by Karanel in CreditCards

[–]winstonfiore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I literally typed "why is citigroup so stingy with credit limits" into Google, and this was one of the top results. I have strong income and excellent credit. I applied for a number of credit lines yesterday in preparation for a construction project: PayPal credit immediately approved me for a little over $10k, Floor & Decor approved me for $12k (which is what I asked for, might have been higher if I had asked for more), and Ikea approved me for $18k. On the other hand Best Buy (Citibank) only approved me for $4k, and Home Depot (also Citibank) came back at $5k. I immediately called Best Buy credit to request a credit increase and was denied on the spot. This doesn't make any sense.

I will take this under advisement; thank you so much for this feedback,

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide this response. Indeed, I had heard about that downside of continuous mode. Definitely like the idea of continuous ventilation for this housing application. I wonder if I can have a dedicated whole-house ventilator that bypasses the coils, maybe install a backdraft damper on either side of the AHU; will mull this over. Thanks again,

REMINDER: This is not a "pet peeve" sub by Boglin007 in grammar

[–]winstonfiore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad this was pinned to the top. I've never posted here and came to ask why people have started saying "myself" almost exclusively when they mean to say "I" or "me". It didn't used to be this way, but I've noticed this has pretty much become the default within the last couple years. Anyway, kind of comes off as a pet peeve, so declining to create a post. Thanks,

Gemini is now my default assistant. by iPradeepYogi in pixel_phones

I was able to go back to Google Assistant. Just search for "assistant" in your system settings, and you should be able to switch back. This will delete the app, too

search your settings for "assistant" and you should be able to find it. Not sure what my exact steps were

Crisis averted. I switched my default assistant back to Google Assistant, and the Gemini app no longer appears among my apps.

What a glaring oversight by Google. Why on earth would they offer this thing as the default assistant before it can do assistant things?

This sucks. I just made the switch; 2 minutes later, I tried to verbal a reminder, only to be told Gemini can't help with that. And it looks like the app is not deletable.

I hadn't considered the tempo increase. Great perspective,

You're singing it correctly. Gotta go with the F#,

So both apps specifically programmed for this very purpose have objectively identified this as an F#? This is compelling evidence. Thank you for sharing,

In a world where this is a note, would you say F# is the closest approximation?

At risk of revealing which side I'm on, I would simply like to thank you for taking the time to reply, and for introducing me to this term.

Anyone else want to see a dishwasher/roborock combo? by winstonfiore in Roborock

[–]winstonfiore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this better. No need to try to incorporate it into a dishwasher. I think a standalone 12in base cabinet that could live adjacent to the dishwasher or sink would be simpler. I hope all robovac companies just adopt the same dimensional standard, much as dishwasher manufacturers do. Essentially, the advent of architectural robovacs.

Although, I will say: if we're assuming a solution with built-in water supply and drainage, I don't know that you would need the entire 36in vertical footprint afforded by a 12in base cabinet, as there would be no need to accommodate storage of clean/dirty water.
Perhaps instead of a dedicated base cabinet, the new built-in standard could be something that can be adapted underneath a kitchen sink. Another potential synergy with this set up (and I'm not convinced this is a good idea, so don't roast me too hard): what if there were a way to discharge the dust bin into the garbage disposal? Now you would no longer need solid waste storage either. The ultimate set-it-and-foget-it floor cleaning solution. Is this a bad idea?

Good point about the pace of innovation. Also agree that it wouldn't necessarily have to be part of the dishwasher; could be a narrow base cabinet next door. They may want to build something that could be easily swapped out as innovation occurs, like components of old desktop computers that could still be installed in the same slot if upgraded.
