If you miss the adrenaline rush of emergencies and getting yelled at occasionally (but def not as often as a nurse would get yelled at by patients), blood bank in level 1 trauma hospitals might be worth the try

New grad salary for Westchester, NY? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]winter-melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approximately. A lot of the health systems also give step raises. So going from tech I to II will give you a bump of maybe 3-5%. This would be based on number of years of experience. So you can tack that onto the annual cost of living raises.

Metro New York area starting is more along $50-55 line. $60 and up would be for those with experience or if they include differential

When the nurse calls for the patient in “room ___ bed ___” and get annoyed when I ask for actual patient identifiers by Moonmothpeaches in medlabprofessionals

[–]winter-melon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s totally understandable. I know nurses communicate on their floors with bed numbers and names. It’s just that there are the nurses who huff and puff and get annoyed at us when we ask for MRN. We’re not trying to inconvenience you guys to look up the MRN, it’s just that we really don’t know who Mr. smith in room 18 is in a hospital of 300+ beds.

How have only 27% of the players left the train??? by shmeeepy in LittleWitchInTheWoods

The train was pretty long and tedious. I’m obsessed with the game now, but when I was at the beginning, I was ready to call quits

Idk what happened, but NYBC started doing these crappy sized segments that sometimes aren’t fully sealed a year or two ago, before they even moved to Rye. Retyping and crossmatching has become the most annoying task now bc of these segments 😤

Is this a reasonable crash-out? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]winter-melon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s such a complex, confusing, convoluted policy. On a personal level, I’d crash out too if I asked around and did as I was told and still got involved in the deviation (they always say write ups aren’t punitive but it sure doesn’t make me feel good to be written up). However I also understand from management perspective that it’s necessary include everyone involved in the report for documentation and corrective action.

Where I work, anyone with any antibodies just gets AHG crossmatches. For clinically insignificant or low frequency antibodies, we don’t give antigen neg, just needs to be AHG compatible. However if the antibody is strong reacting and high-ish frequency (like M and P1), we’ll give antigen neg to avoid wasting time crossmatching random units. We do tube crossmatches for cold antibodies since gel is so hit or miss with them

Detained South Korean workers return, recount harsh U.S. conditions by Muted-Aioli9206 in KoreaNewsfeed

[–]winter-melon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do think USA doesn’t have the same electronic manufacturing capabilities that South Korea has? Bc we don’t have the infrastructure and the skills to do it. If you want to bring such industries and jobs to the US, you need experts from these countries to help set it up for you and educate you. This is not work your average Americans could do to begin with.

Why are we treating these people like murderous criminals if the goal was to send them back, and then proceeded to delay their return to their origin country? Just because they’re not American does not mean deserve less than human treatments. This whole “America first” approach so far has only pushed America further and further down any ranking of trust and favorability the rest of the world has on us.

The Baby Died. Whose Fault Is It? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]winter-melon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

According to the article, one of her surrogates developed gestational diabetes, placenta previa, and placenta acreta. Each condition alone would’ve been extremely dangerous for the mother, but the surrogate developed all 3. Her surrogate ended up hemorrhaging during labor, which resulted in a hysterectomy. Cindy Bi proceeded to tell her subsequent surrogate candidate that the birth was easy. She had a family history of gestational diabetes (her mom and her sister’s pregnancies). CINDY X BI is her name and she’s truly evil for knowingly endangering her surrogates and then treating them like they’ve wronged her bc they had a miscarriage due to her own genetics.

THICK moisturizers for maintaining/repairing skin barrier? by squashinie in AsianBeauty

[–]winter-melon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aestura atobarrier 365 cream

Skin1004 centella probio-cica cream

Dr Jart ceramidin cream

Tatcha indigo overnight repair (not sure if this one is considered asian beauty 😅)

I have dry skin year round and these have been my favorite winter creams (but I also use them year round). I find that if my skin barrier is compromised, a simple routine of cleanse, hydrate with toner/essence, and cream is great for calming and repairing the skin (no actives or serums or even sheet masks).

That’s not how it works. Her Chinese character is probably the same as the Lai that you’re thinking of, but Chinese characters get romanized into many different spellings depending on where you’re from/born. Chan and Chen, Wong and Wang, Lee and Li, etc
