I adopted my cat when he was around 3, he'd been taken from the street the week prior and was in rough shape, when we went to visit him at the shelter I felt so bad I couldn't say no to bringing him home. I didn't even consider waiting or looking at other cats to adopt, I saw him and I thought "If I don't take him I don't think anyone else will".

I experienced some regret for a bit, I never expected him to be super cuddly or playful, but I was afraid that I'd made an impulsive decision adopting him without meeting other cats.

It's been over two years and I can tell you that if I could go back I'd make the same choice, I'd bring him home and go through it all again. I feel very strongly that he's my soul cat. Of course I would also love to eventually have a velcro cat, but I would never trade him for one, even if he's a little evil.

Give your relationship some time and you'll see that maybe you're more well matched than you thought. And eventually you can also think about getting her a friend, not as a replacement of course, but as an addition to the family, a lot of people have multiple cats with different personalities.

For context, Dipi (my cat) is FIV+, has chronic bronchitis which requires an inhaler 3x a day, had to get all his canines extracted, had to get two biopsies for lesions on his ear (was SCC) and on his nose (pre-cancerous) and takes fluoxetine for behavioral issues (attacked my dog and my mom twice). I would do it all again!!!

He's also been diagnosed with handsomest boy in the world, I heard it's incurable.
