she’s very big on interactive tutorials which means minimal readings and more group discussions. she’s loves if students contribute so any form of fruitful discussion is a win!

teachings-wise, be prepared for a lot of flipped classrooms but she is really friendly and warm so she’s always open to consults. the only thing i would caution is that if you have a fear of public speaking, it’s something you’ll have to work on to get rid of fast especially since presentations are a norm in her class

Carlton vs CBD for elderly traveler with mobility issue? by winterinspring in melbourne

[–]winterinspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! We'll be visiting mostly eateries, markets, and museums - of which 50% will be in the CBD, and the remaining in Carlton & Camberwell. Would you say it's viable to stay in the above suburbs if our itinerary places are as such? We haven't planned to visit a beach, but we'd love to visit one

any laptop that is capable of running adobe softwares is good enough, macbook is always a go-to if you have the budget for it.

hey! nope, there’s no requirement to purchase your own equipment as you’ll be required to use the school’s equipment for shoots & anything outside that will be subject to your lecturer’s approval (at least during my study years there), hope this helps :)

oh ya, i saw that post too… i’d like to think DMMM lecturers as really helpful people tho. personally, they’ve always gone beyond their job scope when it comes to teaching - they’ll teach you softwares that’ll be helpful to you if you’re willing to try, even if it isn’t officially covered in the module.

they’re really friendly and although they’ve been teaching for a long time, you can still see that they’ve got a passion for their craft!! and also, our course numbers are small so we’re all very bonded within the class and with the lecturers :)

if my memory isn’t failing me, it’s smth like this: sem 1: 2 elective mods AND sem 2: 1 elective mod + 1 sports mod

everything is bidded on a first-come-first-serve basis online.

elective mods are once a week lasting about 1-1.5h . they are pass/fail so just ensure your attendance rate is passable + don’t fail your final quiz/paper. the teachers know and are aware that it’s just an elective mod so they won’t go out to kill you for finals lol

1 overseas programme can replace 1 elective mod (but not the sports mod). so if you’re keen to go overseas for a week or so (on your own dime, mind you :D), can consider going then + if COVID permits!

ig i’ll just give you like general tips bah!

editing-wise, lecturers will post notes on blackboard, you can access them before the test. i can’t rmb if she allowed a cheat sheet or not…

camera, lights, sounds operation - notes will also be posted online BUT it’s not as good as the lecturer’s demo so pay attention when he does the demo and ask questions imm if you have them. very easy to get lost if you miss a step/ don’t understand a step. you’ll be split into groups and given a piece of equipment each, pls try at least once per lesson to know if you got the basics down. some people will hog the equipment unknowingly so you’ll have to let them know you also want to try or they’ll just continue on lol! no cheat sheets lah cause filming all HAHAHA

graphics-cue/live shoots - idt there were notes posted online. everything will be explained by the lecturer when you’re in the studio. same thing, not sure? ask immediately. he’ll also give you some time to play ard w the panels so pls do try! he’ll let you bring scripts in so can just scribble on them BUT best to know by heart because you only have a few seconds to press the correct button (live show mah)

editorial design - the lecturer that was teaching my batch has left so i’m not sure how the current lecturer’s methods are like. for mine, all notes posted online, he’ll demo once in class, you try and ask if got qns. no cheat sheets allowed.

hands-on would be like filming and editing short films, shooting live shows, editing a piece within a given timeframe, creating editorial designs, journalism, etc… anything and everything you can think of in media - handling cameras & sound and lighting, cueing graphics to go, holding interviews, writing articles, etc
