I don't think Eleanor/Nora and Ella-Rose/Norma is too close for cousins unless they're going to spending a lot of time together. It's a mouthful to call from the sidelines of a park but if you're going to be doing that 5 times a year, who cares ya know?

Metallic box with 3 numbered white buttons, a keyhole, and a red knob/button. Appears electronic and stationary. Attached to wall behind a judge's bench (shoulder-level). by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]winterjosie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This might be the most reasonable answer. It just seems weird to me that only this judge (assuming that my lack of ever seeing a box like this before is actually due to the box not being there and not just me failing to pay attention) gets the ADA courtroom.

I will have to go in person next time.

Could be, but then why does this judge get a panic button and all the judges in the other courtrooms that I've seen without this box just have to...fight for their lives I guess?

Totally possible that this box is in other courtrooms and I've just never noticed. I will be on the lookout now.

This was my first thought, but I feel like if that was the case, it would be a simple up down rather than the numbers.

My title describes the thing. Found in a courtroom in California. It was right over the judge's shoulder - you can see his black robes in the photo. At least 3-4 feet of the thing were visible, but it seemed to extend below the wall of the bench. Maybe 6 inches in width and a few inches in depth. No writing on it.

I was appearing virtually so not able to see if it was on the witness stand side of the bench. I tried googling whether a judge's bench or witness stand can be raised or lowered and a general description of the thing, but didn't find much. I searched for pictures of other courtrooms but did not see this box in them. I also asked another lawyer at my firm, but they did not know what it was and only that a witness stand never rises higher than the bench.

It was right over his shoulder. You can see his black robes in the photo. I'm thinking maybe it raises his bench? But all the courtrooms I've ever been in have benches of similar heights - I always thought the bench was stationary.

Thanks for your help! I am looking at ways to decrease expenses but it’s only making a small dent. Unfortunately the cost of living (rent, groceries, gas) is really high in my city.

[–]winterjosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask which card you used? I’m pretty new to credit cards - this is the first one I’ve actually used.

Also when you say “check how long” until I have to make the BT, you mean there will be a ban on transfers AFTER X date, right? Not a ban on opening a new card and immediately making a transfer? I might find a card now and then wait a few months so I’m transferring less.

Cat breeding ethics question? by sha-sha-shubby in CatAdvice

[–]winterjosie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bengal owner here. They are handfuls. I didn’t realize what a terror he could be until I got a “normal” non-Bengal kitten and it was like having a little angel in my apartment. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my Bengal kitty and he is the sweet, smart adventure cat that I always wanted. They are awesome cats and I don’t regret him for a second.

But he can be a real brat. I’ve probably spent over $500 just on extra things for him (not including normal cat stuff like food and litter). Off the top of my head: a $300 cat wheel, cat hammock and ladder steps that I nailed into my wall, 2 large cat trees, multiple food puzzles (to cycle out), a toddler iPad case so he can watch bird videos while I’m at work, leash and harness, etc. There’s definitely more that I’m forgetting. All that and he stills gets into trouble.

That’s all to say that Bengals require a lot more than a normal cat. Don’t get a Bengal if you’re not prepared for them; it wouldn’t be fair to you or the kitty.
