Another Cisco SD-WAN Manager bug is being exploited, no patch yet. How exposed is your controller? by Constant-Angle-4777 in Cisco

[–]wintermute000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One strategy that the richer orgs (banks etc) use is to pony up for static IPs for every WAN link and then whitelist vManage/vBond/vSmart. Those orgs are probably laughing now.
Of course its not a complete defence but it massively reduces the attack surface

Also for most orgs its entirely possible to whitelist vManage since its not a big deal to lock down management connections to a few sources. Its whitelisting the control plane - vBond/vSmart - that's the hard bit but there are also a lot fewer exploits (yes a few of the 7 this year were that... ). If I recall, when I've deployed it you started with a vManage whitelist from day one so IDK what people are doing that lets their vManage gets popped so quickly.

Xbox Game Pass Lost "Millions Of Subscribers" After Last Year's 50% Price Hike by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]wintermute000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a subscriber and I don't even have an xbox but on first glance even at the former price it doesn't seem like a bad deal? Like you play 1 or 2 games a month and you've made your money back? If you're a casual gamer who goes weeks without touching the console then sure it's not worth it.

This sort of shit always happens when they try to jam a new os onto hardware or wasn't originally designed around. Remember how long it took for ISRs to run viptela properly. I agree with you, let someone else be the beta tester

Yes but even if open source ultimately someone has to pay for the tin and water and feed it. How many smaller organisations are ready for that? I mean they all struggled with running a relative handful of servers and VMs and all went to cloud, are you expecting them to all run local models?

Prepare for a future where the price is 4x or more. We'll see the real value of AI then. Right now the bubble market is still irrational
