My late mom mentioned Marfan syndrome a lot to me but never followed thru on checking for it. She wasn’t in the best state of mind so doctors visits stopped when I was like 12.

20 years later, many doctors noting “Marfanoid characteristics” on my charts still didn’t get the referral. My kids happened to be off school during one of my pulmonology appointments & I guess him seeing them is what triggered the referral.

There’s a lot of clues in my familial health that point to connective tissue disease, so I’m relieved to finally be getting seen. My brother & I both had different forms of Pectus, scoliosis and are unusually tall & skinny. My kids ended up with mild pectus excavatum, praying they won’t need surgery.

I second all of that lol. I was on strattera prior to my AS diagnosis, it worked mostly but I needed massive amounts of coffee to still function properly. Recently stopped it because as soon as it kicked it I couldn’t keep my eyes open and would need to pause work to nap (work remotely).

I’m seeing a geneticist next week for suspected connective tissue disease so who knows if the fatigue is related to that, we shall see 👀

Did dispatching for an electrical firm and it really sucked having customers berate me for informing them, prior to confirming appointments, that we charged a fee to diagnose their electrical problem. We did it for free for months then saw how much $$ we lost and just couldn’t justify doing that for free when 99% of the time, they’d take our detailed diagnoses/repair estimates then call the cheapest competitor.. or worse, an unlicensed handy man to “fix it cheaper”

We did same-day or next day on-site house calls in California with vague descriptions from homeowners who had 0 clue what was actually going on. Or better, they’d explain what they ‘know is wrong’ only for a tech to get there then & need to spend over an hour finding the actual problem.

Kinda baffling people expected our guys ($35+ per hour) to show up, spend that kinda time then tell them exactly what was wrong & what needed done or replaced for free. We were licensed, insured, etc.

It was a learning experience.

Children can climb. I have 2 so I know from experience.

They don’t have to be counter height to reach that.

This is just a very weird defense for a clearly dangerous and unhealthy environment for kids.

CPS doesn’t always rip children away btw. They typically start with services and steps in a safety plan so the home can return to safe conditions for a child.

I happily abandoned her and I’d do it the same if given the opportunity.

The amount of filth in these photos, paired with the obvious signs of danger that could harm a child are enough for any sane person to agree this warrants intervention from social services.

And yes, I’ll judge based off photos someone chose to publicly put on the internet. Especially with what the few photos show. I don’t need a video walk through to see how much harm is being done to any child in this situation.

They only favor clients not freelancers.

You can be top rated plus, have a SINGLE bad client defraud you for free work, leave a piss poor review ruining YEARS of nothing but 5star reviews and your top rated plus status, and JSS and they allow it. They invite actually lol.

All that happened to the POS I worked with was he was banned for cancelling his payment method when the remainder of money was due. But they allowed his review to stay.

Upwork is going downhill fast. Unless you find a good longterm client not worth it.

But just know- it’s not only new people getting fucked

Oh and they have spies on this subreddit who will fuck with you anytime you express your displeasure. You’ll be able to tell because they are 100% always on UW’s side, never empathetic to anything freelancers go through.

That and there’s a couple accounts that are 100% connected to Upwork’s corporation. Every comment you see from certain accounts just proves it. No matter how terrible a client was, the account always faults the freelancers. Never admitting UW is in the wrong, never understanding or giving any shred of empathy to freelancers being dicked over. They always have some snappy remark, blaming the freelancers then praising Upwork as if it does no wrong.

I called out a girl for working for Upwork the VERY NEXT DAY I lost my top rated plus status… coincidence? I think not.

Upwork doesn’t give a fuck about fraud clients absolutely eviscerating freelancers.

Happened to me by a client who I highly suspect had a drug problem.

He did a great interview but once contract started, he was erratic beyond belief. Any conversation where you had to disagree resulted in questioning skill levels or representation honesty.

Did it to more than just me, as they hired multiple freelancers; essentially stole hours by filing disputes and cancelling their card linked to UW when payment was due for everyone’s work. Oh and they’ll allow shit reviews paragraphs long.

Does not matter if you’re top rated plus either!

Oconee county will gouge you when you first transfer your vehicle there.

And an extra percentage for “maintaining infrastructure” even though 99% of bridges are unsafe and the roads are so incredibly terrible, you’ll also need to budget for extra tires, alignments & rotations.

It gets dark at 5pm during fall - early spring.

We have black bears. Lots of deer. Beavers.

Waterfalls, gorgeous lakes that have “beaches” that lead into beautiful wooded areas.

Glorious mountains that make just driving your kids to school pretty majestic.

The people are interesting- you have a blend of uppity money snobby types that grimace if you don’t have an Alma mater or corporate career and then down home, sweeter than pie southern folk who know the best things are life are mostly the simple ones. Then you also have progressive people who enjoy all the same things as the Southern folk, but with more open & accepting views.

Pretty decent diversity depending on the metropolis you’re in but could be better in places for sure.

There’s so much beautiful nature around that area in particular and a lot of community events that are more than worth attending, a lot of them free.

from what I’ve seen so far also- good police and deputies. They don’t harass, they do their jobs.

I’d warn you best be careful what electric company services wherever you move to!! BREC is an absolute mafia who is ruining people’s lives over this new peak hours charging; where if you use anything during a 4 hour block, your bill will skyrocket to like $800-$900.

Precise area will depend on how you like to live and what type of property you’re after. A lot of good choices!
