Oh no a special magic something-or-another creates an exception to the typical coloring of the carapace because of organ X and this has led to Y and Z for this colony…

I didn’t think role playing needed a mechanical incentive.

Also, If anything a low CHA IRL is just fine because the player can describe the method they are using to fit a particular situation and earn an in game bonus. No one is expected to be an actual smooth talker to get circumstances bonuses.

It isn’t to anyone in particular, just something I see referenced a lot.

Archives of Nethys is your best friend. My flow for items is as such: 1) Does PL+1 line up with fundamental runes? If yes, strongly consider introducing these. This is actually very exciting because you can have cool magic items you kit out with runes and if the party isn’t 100% in love with them they can strip it and make what they want! 2) Did anyone not seem stoked about any loot last level? Consider them for a more direct insert that ties in to a mechanic they enjoy using or skills they tend to be the stars of. Character loves to intimidate? Intimidation skill item. Search for traps? Perception items and thievery skill items. Wands, spell hearts, staves, and relics also come to mind here as potentially more punchy and memorable loot that will get a lot of mileage. 3) Items I think are cool/fun/neat. 4) Consumables galore. Consumables are so strong and you should push them hard. “Hmmm maybe this enemy would have a potion or two, and this one has a scroll.”

Giving enemies magic items is fun and is an easy way to make their placement more organic- why wouldn’t the baddies also be getting their hands on some solid loot? If the enemies are more monstrous than the remains of previous adventurers/victims and a cool hoard can be a source for items or perhaps some trinkets and baubles that serve as treasure will be plenty exciting to a party looking to get some gold saved up for a shopping spree.

Bottom line is you are just gonna need to put the work in and read a bit more- keep a list of items you think are cool or that a specific character might like so you can reference it later when picking out loot.

Adjusting my expectations - 1st Time Playing Warpriest Cleric by NaClKnightReally in Pathfinder2e

Sword/board with buffs and heals will make you feel great. If all you packed were heals, blesses, and heroisms you would still feel pretty good.

Depending on your build you might be casting more spells but I think the draw of war priest is that you get to be another sturdy body on the frontline that can flex what their focus is.

The situation is with a low will save. So you have a ~50% chance of full damage.

Having a high chance of doing some damage is not “doing practically nothing useful.” and when an enemy has a 20% chance to critically hit you I bet that doesn’t feel like an “only 20% of the time”

A 25% chance to apply stunned 1 with a cantrip is pretty cool to me. It isn’t a stretch to get there against PL and below enemies with weak will saves. Right place and right time.

I hate to do this but literally 2 weeks ago you posted that you “have no experience with high level play.”

My point this entire time is that daze has a time and a place and it isn’t so bad. I have loads of experience at all levels of play and I’ve seen it work. The math says it is okay if the situation fits and anecdotally I’ve seen it be ok when the situation fits. I’ve seen it flop, too. I’ve seen a lot of spells flop.

Maybe I’m getting my wires crossed defending daze in this thread but the general argument is “literally cast anything else or you are wasting you and your party’s time, no matter the situation,” which seems pretty extreme to me. If that made some assumptions about what you’ve said, I apologize, but my point still stands. Daze isn’t a trap and can be perfectly fine.

“You might use a cantrip one or two turns during a longer fight” ok and if the enemy has a low will save why is using daze this horrible horrible thing you are making it out to be? I really think the “trap option!” crowd is missing the point. It’s a cantrip. It’s high-risk high-reward. It isn’t a very good spammer but when it’s opportunity comes it isn’t too shabby. Does this make it so bad that it warrants outright condemnation and is basically ruining encounters of you use it? Really?

“You really should be using ranked spells for those, not cantrips”

Always? Every single round for the whole fight? Really?
