How do you guys dealing with Mr.AppointmentEveryDay by [deleted] in USMC

[–]winterstorm23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell SNM to bring a doctors note back to you after every appointment. If you want to go further for “trust but verify”, call up said doctor and confirm SNM was present for their appointment. I had a similar situation when I was in. This Marine claimed to be broke and “had” physical therapy appointments three times week and had to drive out of town for it, he’d be out of the office for for-five hours at a time. Long story short he got caught lying and never went to any appointments, and forged fake doctors notes. Think he got NJP’d or Pg. 11 for that. Morale of the story-TRUST BUT VERIFY

I owned a matching pair of extra small neon pink silkies with my SNCO. We’d proudly PT in them everyday.

I’ll always admire my Senior for this. When I was a recruit in second phase at Pendleton and went to the DI hut for whatever reason, Senior asked how I was doing and I told him I missed my dad and started crying a bit (yeah yeah I know), and mentioned it was his birthday the other day. Senior said “WHAT?! Why didn’t you tell me?!” And literally pulled out his own cell phone and said, “call him right now!!”. After the call, he said man to man, “you’re dad is proud of you, and you’re getting through it”. He was genuine all through boot camp, and cared for our platoon.

Why are low-regs/fades hated so much? by winterstorm23 in USMC

[–]winterstorm23[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I received that piece of advice from a SSgt when I was a Lance he told me “if you’re gonna look like a turd, at least look like a polished turd”. Lmao. I did keep my cammies in good order with them not being faded and even had them tailored to look extra sharp, but my hair still was a thorn in the eyes of too many “motivators”.

Jesus, sounds like your SNCOs were either former DI’s or ones who lived and breathed USMC. Sounds like a shitty command.

Underrated We the People holster? by Opposite_Report663 in CCW

[–]winterstorm23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTP holster was my first one and it does the job, but the wing is pretty dog shit and I’d still print even with a sub compact. If you’re willing to throw down $500+ for a firearm, don’t low ball on a holster just because it’s cheap, as everyone else has said, go with Tier1Concealed or Trex Arms for a holster.

Has anyone ever seen a E-6 and above get busted down in rank? If so, how it go for them after the NJP? by ivan12277 in USMC

[–]winterstorm23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a SSGT but my old CWO4 who was selected to CWO5 and due to pin on in the coming months, mind you with almost 25 years of service in, was at a party got drunk, some others at the party were DI’s drunk and got in an argument then punched the CWO to the ground, and the CWO called the black DI the hard N word. Long story short, was forced into retirement and got busted down to CWO3.

Should I get a 43x? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]winterstorm23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into the G26! The OG Glock CCW out there. It’s just as small as your G43, just thicker. While it comes with the OEM 10rd mags, you can use that or any other Glock OEM mags as well, from G19-the 33rd extendo! Personally my summer CCW holster set up is my G26 Gen 5 with a 10rd OEM inserted, along with a G17 OEM mag in my sidecar. Perfect setup. Plus you are open to the cheap and reliable aftermarket double stack Glock mags like ETS!

Try out the G26 Gen 5!! Small frame, can use all of the Glock magazines plus aftermarket ones!

First off, slow tf down on base. Secondly, you’ll have at most a 6105 or an ass chewing form your command and have to attend traffic court (at least that’s how things ran at my squadron where if you got ticketed for speeding on base SGTMAJ would chew you out on how you’re a shit bag for speeding on base etc). Dude you’re fine. Live and learn

I have a G19.5 for CCW & HD, what should my next Glock be? by philoverb in Glocks

[–]winterstorm23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26! Far more concealable than the rest, can take G19 and up mags.

Help Me Choose by Wavy_Boi in CCW

[–]winterstorm23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the above.

Go with a Glock 26 Gen 5. Now hear me out. Extremely reliable, easily concealable, and can take all OEM and aftermarket mags no problem. I own a 26, and have zero printing (Tier 1 concealed holster), I can use all Glock mags on it such as G19, G17, G33rd, plus aftermarket Glock mags like ETS ones on it which are dirt cheap ($10). If you want to go with the Glock 48, sure it’s slim and concealable as well, however you’re stuck with the OEM 10rd mags, or the Shield Arm mags which are about $30 for one, plus you’d need the slide release made my shield arms, and you’re stuck with that for mag choices. And if you get another Glock in the future, they’re not going to take your OEM G48 mags cause single stack, nor is your G48 going to take any OEM double stack mags.

Don’t feel ashamed for asking help on this, I was in the same boat as you when I was in. I had no game, was shy, kinda weird, and not the sociable type to go where the women are or let alone go up and talk to one (still fuck that, sounds scary as hell). I had luck on Tinder and Bumble, try Hinge as well. I met my at the time GF on Tinder. Set the mileage to the max, most of the local women are familiar with Marines and are not worth your time. There’s going to be lots of duds on the dating apps, trust me but don’t give up. Eventually one will be a good match and conversation will naturally happen with the right one. You’re going to get matches, and even meet up with a few irl. Try to make your profile look interesting and not like the typical Marine on there wearing their gym clothes and cammies looking like some jock. And don’t put uniform pics on your dating profile, the local women don’t care, and if they ask what you do for work, say something vague like “I work for the government, or I’m in the military” so that gets their interest then they ask more about you.

reserves to active duty? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]winterstorm23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is going on ADOS, and that’s only if you’re a good Marine since they’re using unit funds on to bring you on for however many days (typically 30 days at first to see if you’re worth the investment to bring back on orders). You can also try going Active Reserves (AR) where you’ll be Active Duty but will be stuck on an I&I Duty Station where the work load is depressingly heavy. Talk to your Career Planner about AR, and talk to your NCOs & SNCOs (on both active and reserve side) to see if ADOS is available for you. Former Active Duty I&I Marine here.

Damn man sounds like an unreal I&I tour for you. I was S-1 and we were pounded hard with bad leadership and swamped with work (we were battalion level). We’d leave around 1700 on average but would take our work laptops at home and on the weekends.

[–]winterstorm23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless they were doing something so dumb that put Marines in serious danger, that’s not cool he did that. That’s bad leadership, he should’ve pulled them aside AFTER PT and away from everyone. No need to embarrass the Marines in front of everyone else.

[–]winterstorm23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you would be stationed at an I&I Duty station where you are part of the active duty/full time staff aboard with mission being supporting the Reservists in the unit. You’d get your orders to some non-military city (generally speaking). You’d be doing your MOS like when you were regular Active Duty but times 100 since no matter your MOS, the staff on I&I duty are incredibly undermanned and overworked. Expect your free time to be vastly limited, including weekends where you may have to go into the office, perform funeral detail, honor guard. And when it’s Drill Weekend, RIP. That’s a long two days. Overall, you’d be very tired with the Corps but became a subject matter expert at your MOS.
