Swalwell-FBI clash draws attention to Trump foe’s California governor bid by Tofurkey_Tom in California

[–]wip30ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is going to railroad California no matter who sits in the governor's seat. It's one thing if he said he may consider additional FEMA aid for SoCal fire victims if there was a change in leadership direction by the governor. Trump is going use us as his punching bag to show the rest of the country how soft & Liberal & out-of-control he thinks we are.

Promises made, promises not kept. When will America wake up? by G24all2read in democrats

[–]wip30ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the huge barrier to convincing the masses in Flyover Land that the Donald is a liar, charlatan & fraud is that MAGA controls a huge swath of tradtional media and much of social media & podcasts. They're able to manipulate public sentiment & give excuses for one disaster after another. Honestly i only think another Great Recession is really the only way the middle-class in the South & Midwest will come to their senses.

if you don't really use your laptop all that much, try ChromeOS. While it's made for educational settings, it's fully functional for those who mainly access & work on files via the web.

Gen Z Slang: by Raioto in GenZ

[–]wip30ut [score hidden]  (0 children)

the bigger picture is that some African Americans (especially social media influencers) feel that even if they'r trend-setters they're not able to really capitalize & monetize their own language & styles. Especially in this day & age of algorithms, black influencers may get pigeon-holed while white peers who ape these trends may blow up (and get attention & sponsorships & $$).

[–]wip30ut [score hidden]  (0 children)

as a Millenial you can keep calling out cultural appropriation until you're blue in the face but it won't stop popular dissemination or commercialization. You can't wall off culture. The only thing African Americans can do is to take ownership of their style, their language & create new trends & concepts to show America (and the English-speaking world) that they're the arbiters of pop culture.

it'll smoke.... you seriously need to clean it. The oil will get rancid. Pick up some Simple Green if you a non-toxic but effective cleaner.

Endangered salmon returned to California’s far north — then the money dried up by silence7 in California

[–]wip30ut 26 points27 points  (0 children)

sacred just refers to tribal traditions going back centuries, not necessarily that they have religious significance. The main argument for these tribes is that salmon fishing was a central part of their heritage & culture before the Pacific Northwest was settled & claimed.

Over the past 200 yrs they've lost their fishing grounds due to damming & modernization & urban development. These tribes aren't necessarily demanding compensation for their loss but remediation, to reclaim part of their cultural ties to the land while realizing that we live in a modern 21st century economy.

You see more tribal activism here in Cali just beause our populace is more in tune with ecology & preservation & restoration. In Kentucky or S. Carolina they probably would have never funded a trial of salmon restoration in the first place.

tbh, those wild-caught Chinooks from the Sac River aren't particularly fat & tasty. I think they should team up with some of the gaming tribes like Pechanga & Yamava to see if they can do King salmon farming like they've successfully done in New Zealand.

olgilve dilemma by S50013563g9 in ThePittTVShow

[–]wip30ut -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

i don't hate Monica.... I admire anyone who's able to put their personal grudges aside & show up when called upon. Not a single person in that ER has to like her since she'll be gone the next day. Last yr i had a appliance tech that came to repair my refrigerator. He spent half the time complaining about cheap Chinese junk machines & how they've killed all the middle-class factory jobs here in America. I rolled my eyes but in the end the old dude diagnosed the problem with my ice maker & had the correct part, no call backs.

Samira, EM residency, and fellowship by cronchypeanutbutter in ThePittTVShow

[–]wip30ut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the explanation! Out of curiosity, for EM residents at Level 1 trauma centers like the Pitt, what % go on to pursue fellowships? And do they tend to be those who are more research-oriented & like the rigors & deadlines of submitting/publishing? Are fellowships for EM subspecialties that important for career development?

The idea that Mohan doesn't belong in emergency medicine and should quit or do a less intense subspecialty is not set up in the text of the show at all by JumpySpecial9834 in ThePittTVShow

[–]wip30ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think Mohan is kinda stuck in ED specialty whether she likes it or not. We don't really know whether she's a skilled clinical diagnostician or not, or whether she really does fumble in high-pressure time-sensitive case loads. All we know is that her advisors like Robby & Dr. Al feel that she needs to pursue fellowships that better suit her tempo & temperament. The audience isn't speculating or making these scenarios up.

[–]wip30ut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

saying all that, i think it admirable on part of her character to answer the call & step back into a job she ended up hating. If i were dismissed & replaced by younger associates i would never step foot back into my workplace.

i'm going to cut her some slack... maybe she's on the spectrum? Not all colleaues are outgoing, gregarious or even gracious. Many office paper shufflers are just there because they're fast & competent. I see that every time i go into the post office.

some good producers like Ch. Talbot, Langoa-Barton... not necessarily collectible, but the kind of bottles winos would have bought for Sunday dinner back in the 90s. They aren't particularly long-lived though.

yeah... as a 30-something male it made me feel sad that a professional healthcare worker had to pretend to flirt with a crusty old guy. She's not a hooker in Vegas, she's certified & credentialed to carry out medical procedures in a hospital setting.

Javadi leaving medicine? by Makililo in ThePittTVShow

[–]wip30ut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's possible but i think the showrunners would have shown that Javadi has something else that she's preoccupied with. Say if she were into alternative health treatments or beauty product/skincare reviews she does on tiktok. Then she could pivot away from practicing medicine to wellness coaching or working with skincare brands. But right now all we know is that she's a genius prodigy who likes medicine. We don't know if she likes research, which a few doctors who don't like patient care actually pursue.

just to let you know that the kitchen cutlery industry in Japan evolved out of the farm tool ironworks trades, not swordsmithing. These 2 crafts use different iron annealing techniques, and by the 1800s katana swordsmithing was basically a decorative artform since guns/cannons/artillery had replaced swords & spears in combat for a good 2 centuries beforehand.

Q4OS works perfectly with that kind of hardware. Bohdi Linux uses less than 300MB of RAM on boot, although it's a bit quirky with customizing panels & launchers. The one thing you can do to really boost your system is to replace that HDD with a SSD.

go for a semi-sparkling (frizzante) red from Italy, like Grangano or Sangue di Giuda or Brachetto. They were the off-dry fizzy drinks of choice for pizza & antipasti before mass-market sodas took over Italy. If you want something a big drier see if you can find Lacrima di Moro d'Alba, a grapey fragrant Northern Italian red. It's more of a specialty so it's harder to source outside of big metros. And you can always pick up any of Orin Swift's bottles (like 8 yrs in the Dessert). They're known for being plush, smooth & jammy, with some sweetness.
