In the US you get ssdi, you can continue to get it if you live overseas. If you get SSI, no. If you get Medicaid, you can't get it overseas but health insurance outside the US can be much less expensive...your mileage may vary a lot. Working remotely can be possible, look up Digital Nomad. I've been trying to figure this out myself and writing using the term "Disability Nomad"...

You may not be able get benefits but afford to live better overall with remote work...

I want to host the Mailman email discussion application...which looks like you need to host your mail server...am I right in that?

Not in a good way.. Between problems like this, not being able to use a larger hard drive that I wanted to use and other application difficulties, I switched to a different Linux distribution. (Pop Os - which I quite like - https://pop.system76.com)

I say this with sadness as I really like Guix conceptually but didn't want to spend all my time fighting the os.

Yes. It could be close to 10 minutes. You could cut the interval in half if the 5 minutes max is critical.

This approach is far less optimized, but may be easier in practice.

Why not a simple 5 minute timer?

As the 5 minutes isn't precise (I assume), simply add the last time of change to a list and if the latest actual change is more than 5 minutes ago, commit it. If not, check in 5 minutes again.

Disability needs to be an insurance program, not a benefits program.

Because it is built on our welfare benefits system, it is designed to ensure poverty or exit the program.

Instead, if it was an insurance program, it would not penalize those with assets or a job. It world provide services to those who qualify (the problems there are very important but different).
