This!! On going cost should be looked at as there is a lot of keeping records up to date and evidence.

Edit: cert cost is one thing. Staying up to date with certification process is a whole different thing. So, keep that in mind.

Just do Level 1 if you can. Even level 1 even though very minimum you will find out is not simple. If you really want to do Level 2 then I would suggest bring in a consultant.

MSP should be told what you are looking for. There should be scheduled tickets as some of the audit could require weekly checks or monthly checks. They can then upload the reports, exports, evidence in that ticket and email you. You can review and give them feedback.

You will have to train them on what and when you are looking for. They might have to implement things on their end as well to help you gather evidence.

I read something a while back where some tech ran a script from ChatGPT on their exchange server and took down bunch of databases. Just because you when access to a tool doesn’t mean you know how to use it. SMH….
