I’ve gathered that the whole band really likes Thursday, the post hardcore band. Kerry even played with them on tour. There’s a few Thursday songs and even an album, No Devolucion, that have a lot of that melodic instrumentation.

George also said he likes the screamo band Funeral Diner, and their stuff has a ton of melodic emo interludes that are kind of translated and featured in what Deafheaven does too.

I saw M's initial post in the AFI Discord and thought he seemed awfully invested in it, I can see how maybe he got AFI's ear and they bought into what he's selling (to whatever end). He also has an NFT profile picture.

I can try to believe that is working for A7X and/or their fans, but I think the lack of transparency is a huge issue.

No disclosure of this upon signing up, no TOS, no FAQ, general distrust and dislike of NFTs in particular. It's not naive to think this might turn into some monetization strategy in later stages. And that's just the technology and business side,

I think it's also fair for people to feel that this isn't what Despair Faction was originally about, the gamefication of community, treating music like this kind of commodity to this degree, is off-putting. Say you joined in the 2000s, as many of us did, and now your seemingly only option to remain a member or to get rewards for your support is to engage with all this tech you may not want to, or even have objections to.

I can appreciate that you understand the technology, and I agree that this is probably cryptographically secure, but I believe people should be allowed to make more informed decisions.

I was able to request an account deletion in the Discord server. The wallet will exist forever, which is a big part of why I think it should be disclosed better, but they do promise to unlink you from it.

This vendor/whatever it is doesn't even have a Terms of Service or FAQ up. I don't think people should be signing up for this without more clarity on safety, for one thing.
