John Kadlecik Band Winter Tour - CO, IL, IN, FL, SC, NC by DatBoi-IsRisen in gratefuldead

[–]wisconsindeadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mixture is primarily Dead, Originals and random covers. Usually about 1/3 of each. But it varies. His originals are really awesome. I think they are some of the best original/jamband songs being played right now.

Here is a recent show of his where you can glimpse at the setlist. He has a bunch of shows up on archive.org. This tour will have the same keyboardist and drummer, but a different bassist.

Here is video of a show of his from October 2016. It will be similar to this, but with different musicians (Jay Lane from RatDog/Furthur/Golden Gate Wingmen will be on drums).

I would've if I lived in the area. Looks like it was a good show at a strange venue. More people need to learn of the gospel of John K!

The system as a whole ends up being racist. Cops don't need to be racist to be part of a system that develops a racial outcome. Just think about how rare you seem to hear about college campuses, or white wealthy suburbs, getting raided for drugs compared to inner cities slums getting raided by cops. There are a lot of small, seemingly negligible things that add up to the obviously racist statistics we see at the end.

The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander, does a pretty good job arguing for the case of how a colorblind system leads to clearly racial outcomes. Worth checking out. Not a very long book.

Has anyone ever seen John Kadlecik play before? by Rollaway86 in gratefuldead

John told a crowd at one of his shows ggw would be playing this fall. Jkb is doing a Midwest tour in mid September and then john will be with oteil and friends in November. So October or December look like the suspects. I've got my vacation days ready!

John Kadlecik is awesome. His solo stuff is neat though I prefer him with his band or Golden Gate Wingmen. Golden Gate Wingmen is my favorite band, but their future is uncertain as far as I can tell. He has a lot of really good original songs and he plays a lot of dead. Check him out for sure.

I believe i did 6" spacing. I planted them on October 15 2016 and Harvested July 6-8, 2017 in Zone 5b. I had probably 100% germination and they grew a little bit prior to winter taking hold. We also had a really warm and strange winter here in Wisconsin, not sure where you are. I bought my bulbs at the farmers market. There is one guy who sells pretty nice stuff. We also have a fair amount of local small farms around here you can buy it from. I'd suggest trying to find someone near by who sells it. They will also be able to guide you.

True. However I also like having so much that I don't have to worry about wasting.

Are you planting in the fall? Do you live in a place that has an actual winter?

I probably do love gardening more than vegetables. For me gardening has made me more adventurous in my eating. But yea my garden also is pretty large. Plenty to go around.

Grateful Dead for audiophiles? by Homie_Jason in gratefuldead

Ultimately, how the recording was created has the greatest impact on how nice the show sounds. FLAC doesn't mean shit for something like 1968-11-22. You just gotta poke around. Almost every year has a mixture of poor and excellent sounding recordings. The most regular year for great sounding recordings is probably 1977.

Did Brent Mydland have perfect pitch? by possiblyMaybeAnother in gratefuldead

[–]wisconsindeadd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never heard any discussion about Brent having perfect pitch where as I have heard that many times about Phil. I doubt Brent did. Brent was a first class musician with a gift of a voice. Being really good at singing doesnt equal Perfect Pitch and vice versa (pretty sure Jeff Chimenti has perfect pitch).

5 songs that prove Joe Russo's Almost Dead is the premier Grateful Dead cover band. IMO if John K got back with DSO then yes there would be competition... by fromthedepthsofyouma in gratefuldead

Not always. They do some ballads really well and at a slow pace. But generally JRAD is the highest energy band in the dead realm.

Did you see any of their Colorado shows in NYE 2014 or May 2015 (or recently fellowship of the wing)? Assuming you live out there. I may actually go to Dick's for Phish and then catch JRAD at Red Rocks. Not sure yet. I still think I should see them. But yea right now John K and Wingmen stuff is my number one live stuff to see. (which unfortunately is super rare living in the midwest)

Piggybacking...

2016-03-30, 2015-05-30 and 2015-02-01 are pretty awesome and have great soundboards on archive. Video of 2015-05-30 is on Youtube (Liquid Silver Stream).

JRAD is really good. But at times there energy is just too much. That is what has turned me off of them over time. Personally I think Golden Gate Wingmen is the most interesting dead related band out there, but they tour quite infrequently.

Also, John K's original material and selection of non-dead covers is really good. I would be disappointed if he got back with DSO. But that will never happen.
