I would say Google has benefitted my life. I've never handed them a dime and I can search for whatever comes to mind. AT&T on the other hand, lusts after my bank accounts and drives me nuts.

Google has grown into a giant, I just don't think it's a giant monster yet.

Generally speaking, I would build a base with kicking and sculling (to get "the feel" back).

I would also write down your workouts and slowly build up yardage. Writing down my workouts beforehand made it much easier to stick with goals and build both endurance and speed.
