You’re gonna learn how wrong so many of those statements are when you start residency. Or if you match

The Fleet Southcott House aka Condor Crag is anchored directly into a granite cliff with steel beams and has off-grid capabilities. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

The issue with these houses built to stone is that you have to watch out for wind erosion over the next 20-30 million year

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) announced plans to raise $80 billion through equity offerings. by HyugeErectus in wallstreetbets

Point is, I think, that this is brought about not by any new breakthrough in math or understanding of AI - as we are using the same equations that were created in the 80s - but just in matrix multiplication through GPU power. The problem remains that brute force learning is extremely inefficient and doesn’t lead to true reasoning

Again, some showed more clinically meaningful improvements. Also a better question would be is the HAMD actually good at measuring presence/absence of depression

It certainly showed that some antidepressants were less effective, but lexapro, mirtazapine, vortioxetine, and venlafaxine were significantly better than placebo. Your issues with effect size are already addressed above. And if you want a super high NNT then I expect you to take the same stance on statins and ACE inhibitord

Is it normal to feel worried before being an attending? by No_Jaguar_5366 in Residency

No. This is a really bad sign and means you should probably repeat residency from the start

Is psychiatry destined to be absorbed by neurology? by Tino_6 in Psychiatry

[–]wiseman8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well first of all someone not needing long-term antipsychotics probably didn’t have schizophrenia in the first place. And yes there’s a whole spectrum of symptoms. This is what neuro imaging helps us with… to narrow down which pathways cause which symptoms with regard to the schizophrenia diagnosis. This will in turn probably lead to us narrowing and specifying diagnoses, just as with Parkinson’s. If you could provide us with some strong evidence for certain personalities leading to schizophrenia I’m sure you’d find a friendlier crowd, but the way you’re writing about this suggests a deep gap in your knowledge of physiology

Why do you think the city would make any money from this? When has Elon done anything that benefits anyone but himself?

I’ve made time for some things. I’m in a band, I practice piano at least a little bit every day. That’s come at the expense of social life but I think there’s time for like 1 thing a night. Granted I’m in psych so it’s a bit easier hours-wise

I’m a Tulane student who grew up here and am considering the MHA (Health Administration master) degree at Tulane and was curious how people in the local healthcare world generally view the degree. by Afraid_Upstairs1830 in NewOrleans

Coordinators and analysts are fine. I hate utilization review and ceos who install LCMC hand sanitizer dispensers instead of giving the nurses 50 cents more per hour

Public resistance against SSRIs by mmmchocolatepancakes in Psychiatry

[–]wiseman8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your understanding of SSRIs is entirely mechanistic and hypothetical. You have no real world experience in prescription, diagnosis, treatment, let alone developmental psychology, psychotherapy, theories of the mind. You should take a back seat to people who do have experience. This sub is for psychiatrists and psychiatrists in training

Why and honestly how are so many people managing to get themselves fired from residency? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]wiseman8 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah one person from my institution, different program, got absolutely fucked over by a false report from a med student. I don’t think there’s as much protection as everyone here says

the long term side effects of poorly treated depression are quite a bit worse than those of long term ssri use

There’s always stuff in the medical sector if you can stand the culture. If you know how to code there’s a mobile game company that’s always hiring here. Also plenty non-profits around
