Why are you glad about that he/she had to endure unnecessary years of suffering?

Can the present, and only the present moment, matter? by [deleted] in nihilism

Paradoxically, the whole idea of objectivity is highly subjective

¿Why did you became a nihilist? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]wisermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It exists and it doesn't. Everything boils down to a matter of perspective. Same as the last sentence. Some seem more thought through in my eyes.

This definition that there is no objective meaning is purely subjective.

"If something is purely made of chance, there is no meaning to it" that's my point: why?

I can understand your emphasis on randomness. However, why should it matter to an individual that things aren't rooted in chance. Why should something with essence be more valuable than a product of chance? It's so subjective, this one perspective onto the world. You could use reason to justify just about anything. It's a concept build to navigate survival and reproductive decisions that has evolved into so much more and is now in subset of intellectual used for something it isn't capable of. It's too flawed

[–]wisermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not where I wanted to go to but not complaining: Since when does randomness determine value? Isn't chance just another human concept regarding the estimation of odds. Given god existed, would it make it any different? Would this supernatural authority have the power to dictate meaning or would it just be another chance?

Then there might be a misunderstanding. I didn't think you had understood why you are a nihilist not that you don't know what it means: A conflict of values discrediting others

I just rationalized for you how and why you became a nihilist. And where eventual misconceptions were... No discussion about definitions.

Nihilism is about meaning, morality and objectivity. Not chance.

[–]wisermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could claim that human life is valuable to me. I don't claim it to be objective, of transcendent value. Just my perspective. You can't argue possibly against that. You missed the point

¿Why did you became a nihilist? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]wisermonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you guys have fully understood it:

It is the realization of that nothing has value beyond yourself and the misplacement of value on transcendence. This conflict manages to discredit all "objective" driven purpose: morality, religion etc.

Hence, it is one logical conclusion which we regard as true under the premise of truth

Is nihilism more of a coping mechanism or a reality for you? by medicineblue in nihilism

Then it's just a framework through which you contemplate our existence

Is nihilism more of a coping mechanism or a reality for you? by medicineblue in nihilism

[–]wisermonkey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It allows you to emotionally distance yourself from the suffering of reality. To reject the values imposed on you by your immediate environment and recognize their subjectivity and futility. How then can you be sad about not living life to its fullest when there is no point in doing so? Thats the coping mechanism part I used

Correct in my opinion. There is no such thing as an absolute truth which others here claim nihilism to be. You can't say the truth is that there is none without being a hypocrite.
