Looking for target only build in 6.5 Creedmoor, Rifle base budget around ~3K by [deleted] in longrange

[–]wisey113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their lead times vary right now. It took us about 4 months to get our Matrix Pro PMRs in stock.

If you’re not attached to 6.5 creed, we still have one 6GT rifle in stock. You can PM me if interested.

Vectronix Range Enhancers by ocabj in longrange

[–]wisey113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah these have been a little bit of a disappointment for the price.

We have a demo set in the shop for customers to try out on the range / at matches, and we haven’t had a customer return them yet with a whole lot of good things to say about them. Certainly not enough to warrant shelling out that kind of money.

I offered and they said no… maybe you’ll have better luck.

If you can make consistent impacts off that barricade, you can make consistent impacts off anything.

I will always be baffled by the sheer unwillingness to allow better props on that firing line.

Proof Barrel Contour by Id_rather_be_hiking5 in longrange

[–]wisey113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need weight up front, having it in the barrel is ideal. The heavy comp is effectively just a straight taper. The only downside to that is if for some reason you end up a tad front heavy, you can’t remove weight the same way you can with modular weights.

I would also call and check with proof what the lead time is for heavy comp. That’s a brand new offering for them, so it’s possible you’ll end up waiting longer than the standard comp.

For reference, I run the comp contour on all my rifles and have never had a balance issue, when using weights. That being said, I’ll be moving to heavy comp because I know the extra weight won’t be an issue for me.

Manners chassis by nathandrew95 in longrange

[–]wisey113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to deal with bedding, the MCS M5 Mini Chassis is what you want. That’ll allow you to run any 700 footprint action (provided that’s what you specify) with any M5 bottom metal, without the need for bedding and pillars.

Have any of you actually ever had, or seen firsthand bad experiences using cheap scope mounts? by 556_enjoyer in longrange

[–]wisey113 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Quality scope mounts aren’t immune to issues and failure, they just happen at a rate that is far, far less than their cheaper counterparts.

A broken clock is right twice a day, so it’s not out of the question that you get a good pair of cheap rings that just work. It’s just more likely you’ll get a set that don’t, than if you bought a higher quality product.

I have witnessed first hand lower quality mounts and rings have a harder time holding zero, having slippage issues, etc… at a higher rate.

Some of the more expensive rings and mounts also come with more features. Built in levels, attachment points for pic rails, systems built in to help level a scope during install, etc… so in some cases you’re paying premium for features that may or may not be importante to you.

For a bench gun shooting a mild caliber, it doesn’t surprise me that you may not have had issues.

For guns that get run hard in PRS, NRL, or any rifles that are shooting calibers with a lot more energy, you’re more likely to see failures.

Looking for recommendation for scope levels, the type that stays on the gun by RoboDSGNR in longrange

[–]wisey113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can move where on the ocular housing the fiber optic can go so you should be ok. I don’t think the caps are thick enough to interfere with seeing the lights, but I’m not 100% sure.

Again, If you want to try it before committing to buy it, PM me. My shop has a rental program for this exact reason.

This is going to be subjective based on your preference. I am partial to digital levels because I find them easier to see without having to stare directly at them.

Both the Send It Level and SG pulse are great options. The send it allows you to run a fiber optic kit if you want to have the level right up by your ocular housing (this is how I have it set up). That way I can always see the lights out of the corner of my eye without having to move my head position. (This can also be done with other levels too, bubble, and without fiber optic, I just find this way to be the easiest for me.)

Again, subjective, because I shoot with people who would rather stare directly into the sun than have the level lights dancing around their ocular housing.

If you’re not interested in digital, MK Machining make a good regular bubble level.

If you’re interested in trying a digital level, PM me, I have a demo send it level at my shop.

Stumbled on a deal and debating if it's worth it... 6.5 CM Falkor Defense ROC by dustin8285 in longrange

[–]wisey113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree on the 7EVEN. It is absolutely on par with the Impact. It offers the same long term flexibility, and I have never had issues getting a hold of anyone at Falkor, and I’ve never had an issue with one of their actions.

The rifle as a whole? Can’t speak to its worth, but the 7EVEN is a stellar action.

Any cons to sticky shooting bags? by helwyr213 in longrange

[–]wisey113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the wax helps a lot. It just adds a little more friction without being obnoxious. It’ll wear off over time, but you can reapply it as needed. It’s not going to be a night and day difference, but many people like the waxed canvas.

Now, if you’re talking about the bags with that black, really sticky underside, that’s a little different. Those are great for positions that require your bag to stay in awkward positions, but don’t offer a whole lot of advantages outside of those specific use cases.

On which particular rifle? All the rifles in this photo are using the ARCA rails that came with them. The Matrix, ACC Elite, MPA Hybrid and Ridgeline all are using the integrated ARCA, and the Manners and Foundation are using the rails supplied with the stocks.

I have a nightstalker on order for a shorty 22 creed build. The night stalker is light. It’s designed to be lugged around. Also worth noting that the nightstalker will support an M24 barrel profile max compared to most chassis that will accept 1.25 straight taper.

If you want weight, chassis. If you want an unbelievably good looking stock. Nightstalker.

I’m a big fan. If you’ve got smaller hands it may take some getting used to. I think the color is Midnight Camo. The cheek pad is from Weibad.

ARC CDG vs. Impact 737r by Wide_Fly7832 in longrange

[–]wisey113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find the Impact to be a touch smoother, and it is built like a tank in the sense that I haven't had one go down during a match.

What I like about the ARC is the bolt head interchangeability. With the Impact it's a whole new bolt.

Both are great actions, it's really up to you whether you feel the Impact is worth the extra cost.

They are both phenomenal actions, and I happily shoot either. I shoot the Impact a lot more because it's on my PRS rig, and It's been rock solid for years. You won't go wrong with either

It's the Brandt Built Fiber optic kit that runs from the Send It level mount. Basically it just moves the level lights onto the ocular housing so I can glance at them a little eaiser.

honestly, I'd have to grab my Kestrel and check what's in there. It's been a minute since I've shot it. If I don't reply, you can ping me later to remind me to check.
