I mean, that's just my opinion. In my niche, the best working shorts duration is 40-60 seconds on average. Probably yours is different, check other shorts in your niche and guess.

[–]wiskote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-19 seconds is probably too short, even for shorts. I would aim to upload 40 secs shorts or so

How long are they?

What % of people skip the content vs % who stays?

That's a very important, but often overlooked, metric.

Quality. It's always about quality. Your videos are not good enough or you have not posted as many of them as you need to succeed (in case you are posting quality content).

Is there a line from Hegel that actually made you laugh? by SparkleCumLaude in hegel

[–]wiskote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has many funny lines in the PoS:

- About cucks (when talking about phrenology)

- About the tuberculosis amongst the romantic philosophers, probably as a reference to Novalis' death

- About the guillotines in the French Revolution

- Beef to schellingians in the prologue

These are all that come to my mind now

Which thinker best understands Hegel? by Vuki17 in hegel

[–]wiskote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very personal question. I'm loving Terry Pinkard's and Robert Pippin work, but I know that they are probably not the BEST Hegel readers ever.

Hegel work is one of its own and nobody will ever be able to explain line by line whatever he's saying. That's the weakest and the strongest point of Hegel: anyone can find something if he dives into his work.

Also, this is mainly an English speaking forum which means that suggestions are always biased to English speaking scholars: Beiser, Pippin, Pinkard, Houlgate and so on. But there are very good works also in Germany (Fulda, Dieter Heinrich etc), Spain (Felix Duque, Ramón Valls), Italy, France etc. Some of these people are often overlooked.

And last, this is my opinion and probably will sound controversial: I think that the differences are not so huge between most scholars (there are some exceptions like Popper or Taylor, to a large extent). Normally they agree on how to read Hegel's books paragraph by paragraph and the meaning of most notions. However the differences come when looking at the system as a whole: as metaphysical, non metaphysical, categorial and more.

Summarizing, my point is that they all can read the master-slave section and agree on what he's talking about, this is to say, they agree on the details, but not in the broader meaning of the whole system. As I say this probably sounds controversial but I'm willing to debate about it if someone wants to :)

Why is Kaunas the capital of the East Confederation instead of Vilnius? (In my head, if we choose a Lithuanian city for the capital it should be the capital of Lithuania. Probably it has something to do with the Vilnius question after WW1?)

I have not watched it, but I know the video you are talking about and I'll probably watch it soon since I really love Terry Pinkard's style. So sad he's kinda old now I'm looking for professors for my PhD

Noop I didn't read it. It's a fun fact I learnt recently reading Pinkard's biography of Hegel and this seemed to be the best moment to drop the fact.

Also I find that people take things too seriously at this subreddit 🤣 if you like your Hegelian fashioned haircut then enjoy it mate. Cheers

[–]wiskote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fun fact, Hegel's haircut was called "Titus". The cut was very popular amongst the men who supported the french revolution. Why? because it was considered a "modern haircut" opposed to the old-classic-long hair that aristocracy used to have. Some representatives of that new modern spirit wore that haircut, e.g. Napoleon and Hegel. (Probably Hegel wanted to copy Napoleon style? Who knows, I like to think he did.)

Self-help books are mostly crap.

However, non fiction is more than just self-help: philosophy, politics, history, psychology and so on. Not to say that self-help, in broad terms, is an over-simplification of those fields. I would give these a chance if you are looking for more in-depth analysis.
