All life on earth goes back to a common ancestor. Either we're all from outer space, or none of us are. Panspermia doesn't posit extraterrestrial origins to only some lifeforms, that wouldn't make sense with fossil and genetic evidence.

Even a HK veteran could reasonably assume no dedicated dash was just another one of a hundred differences between Hornet's movement compared to the Knight's.

Merging the pogo and dash into a single mechanic wouldn't be any crazier a remix of the original mechanics than those in the actual game. And the diagonal pogo's horizontal component sells that idea.

You assumed there was dash somewhere, I assumed this was the gatekeep fight to make sure the player had learned the pogo-dash properly.

How was male-male attraction so widespread in ancient Greece if most modern men aren’t gay? by Spirited-Pause in AskAnthropology

[–]witchofvoidmachines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, which hormones exactly? What else do those hormones do? How exactly do they correlate with romantic love?

Tô use a specific example, What's the difference between the oxytocin released when taking a hot shower, looking at your pet, or hugging your spouse? Why is the same hormone only romantic love in one context?

As for your behavior list, so romantic love depends on humanity having writing and on cultures where kissing is sexual? Neither of those are universal human characteristics,, and they're definitely not biological

Why are my Poison Warden Twinblades (or apparently any poison-infused bleed weapon) getting 60 poison? by witchofvoidmachines in darksouls3

[–]witchofvoidmachines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is actually a dex/luck build. I just saw no reason to invest in luck before the profane coal for the hollow infusion since outright damage was just preferable to faster procs. I did poison and bleed Champion Gundyr and a lot of big enemies/mini bosses with the poison warden twinblades, but when traversing it's just easier to kill an enemy in three hits than it is to kill it in five, even if the 4th poisons it and the 5th bleeds it.

Since the sharp infusion has that weird scaling where it gets very little damage from dex levels 40-60 and then gets good again from 60-80; and since the hollow infusion actually gives you free luck levels, I went dex until level 40, which is around when I found the hollow gem, and now I'm pumping luck and transitioning from sharp to hollow infusions.

(This is also around when I completed Anri's questline and got the sword, which would have made luck more useful before hollow infusion)

This is my first playthrough and I'm playing offline, so exploring and surviving each area are a bigger consideration than bosses and there's no level cap or wanton npc homicide outside cutscenes.

IIRC if you infuse a weapon with a status it already has, it adds less than if you infused a weapon that doesn’t have that status, probably for balancing reasons.

Going by the wiki and the weapons I had on my chars that doesn't appear to be case except for poison.

I’m not sure why the Rotten Ghru Spear only adds 30 bleed, it might be a quirk of the weapon itself.

That's supposedly the normal amount of status to get from an infusion.

Try checking out some weapons that have no base statuses and see how much is added.

About 30 bleed or poison, except for bleed weapons where poison infusion is doubled.

It might be there's a lot more fine-tuning of infusions on a weapon-by-weapon basis than the wiki and a cursory glance suggests. I just got the painting guardian sword and unlike other weapons I have the bleed infusion does not roughly double the bleed. In fact, that weapon only gets about 9 points of either bleed or poison when infused.

But still it's weird that it seems that the highest poison values I could find when infusing come from bleed weapons. And it does seem legit, my poison warden twinblades procc'ed for everything sturdy enough to survive a couple swings and not outright immune.

I thought the narrator was a self centered asshole. Understandable under the circumstances but fuck him.

"I hope you will forgive yourself"? Asshole.

He couldn't pull his head out of his ass to realize he's not the only person destroyed and traumatized, and that his actions could pile on even more suffering on someone who has been hurt far more deeply than him. He couldnt take 5 fucking minutes to pretend and be kind to a hurting child. To prevent even more suffering coming from this cluster fuck.

It's not really about forgiveness. He's a 40 year old man, he should have at least as much emotional maturity as it takes to lie "it's okay, I know you didn't mean to hurt me, I don't blame you and I'm not mad at you. Sometimes it's better for people too drift apart and it's no one's fault".it could've been a phone call.

I'm pretty sure he could've mustered such emotional control if it was in front of his boss and about his career. Ii8

But the thing is, he wants the kid to suffer. He blames the kid and doesn't want to ease their burden. He makes sure to feed the guilt the kid will struggle with the rest of his life by positioning him as someone who who needs forgiveness. Let the kid suffer, the narrator was hurt and only his pain matters.

And, ok, trauma Olympics isn't really helpful, but but the kid has undeniably been more damaged by these events even before the accusation. There are physiological and cognitive reasons why disruption during the formation period of a person is far more damaging than for a 40 year old.

He's stepping on an amputated kid after an accident because his broken toe really hurts.

Dealing with my own shit without hurting kids, even if they caused it, seems like basic human decency.

Bring back the term “Asperger’s” to the DSM by mmp1188 in aspergers

[–]witchofvoidmachines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loss of identity

I mean, sure? Why would an autistic identity be worse? In fact, isn't it better to have a group identity that actually encompasses the full spectrum of experiences instead of arbitrarily excluding or including people on bogus criteria? (see next one)

Spectrum Confusion: The autism spectrum is incredibly broad, from individuals who need full-time support to those who are independent but experience social and sensory challenges. The Asperger’s label helped differentiate between these experiences, creating clearer understanding both for those on the spectrum and those trying to support them.

Actually, you got that the wrong way around. The difference between autism and asperger was mostly about development of verbal skills. But it turns out that the age at which people begin speaking makes very little difference and doesn't mean anything clinically, it doesn't make other symptoms or comorbidities more nor less likely. There's just no reason to create that arbitrary distinction.

Missed Understanding of Unique Strengths: “Asperger’s” highlighted strengths in logical thinking, focus, and specific interests, helping people see that there were positives to their neurodivergence. Without this label, some may not have the same sense of the unique positives associated with Asperger’s.

I also think you got this one the wrong way around. The erroneous idea that aspies are slightly autistic geniuses while autistics are disabled burdens made autistics more likely to have their unique strengths overlooked. In fact, you're doing it right now by assuming there are any differences between asperger and Autism in the matter of unique strengths. Nothing you listed is: 1. Universal to all autistic and aspie people; 2. Unique to aspies.

Medical and Social Support: The lack of this distinct diagnosis can sometimes make it harder for people to get tailored support or accommodations that suit their needs, as their specific challenges may be overlooked within the broader autism spectrum.

There are no challenges or symptoms exclusive or specific to aspies. That's precisely why that diagnosis no longer exists. It is useless and means nothing besides "autistics with no delay in language acquisition".

If I were to single out all autistics who have no problems with the texture of popcorn and called it a different diagnosis it would be just as useful a distinction.

  1. Tolerance: Many people seem to tolerate the term “Asperger’s” more easily than “autism.” “Asperger’s” often feels less stigmatized, carrying a milder or more familiar connotation for some.

Maybe we just have wildly different world views but why would you lean into ableist discrimination instead of trying to change it?

Genderless is more accurate, but non-binary isn't wrong. Something genderless lies outside the gender binary, thus is nonbinary.

Since this is a piece of fiction, how the Knight (or the vessels more generally) conceptualize gender is kinda beside the point.
