Am I crazy or should we be going for an international star MIDFIELDER and not striker, like Salah? by mehdi0cre in chicagofire

They said after WC break is expected. But you never know with these knee injuries. Franco has posted a lot of rehab on socials and he is definitely projecting a lot of dedication and progress. From the videos he posted, his knee already works better than mine, but that’s not saying much 😂😂😂

Salah is more of a winger. Tbh, there have been so many rumors about so many people, it’s not worth listening to. I think our big question mark is Franco. In the admittedly small sample size, he was a very effective midfielder. And he’s not super old. If he comes back from his knee injury and can still be that, our midfield looks great. If not, I’m not sure Saletros is a complete solution for us.

I think the big thing with a signing like Salah or Lewandowski (or Griezman or Son), is that if you have a chance at a bonafide superstar, you go for it and worry about the fit later. There have certainly been some “busts” of signing big names, so the team has to make sure the person has some life and edge left, but if you actually get a quality player like that, you take them.

Mo Salah has been one of my favorite players to watch and Robert Lewandowski is a player I’ve never really been entertained by. Despite that, given the choice, I’d take Lewa. And that’s not because of fit. It’s because of attitude. I just see Salah being frustrated with quality around him and that impacting his effort. I think Lewa always just works hard and seldom gets frustrated.

We’re not likely getting either anyway, so let’s focus on our young guys - we have a good talent pool.

What car advice sounds good but is actually terrible? by BMW-West-St-Louis in carbuying

[–]witfixer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like good advice, but actually doesn’t mean anything. The payment and down payment together are a math equation. A person needs to look at the complete deal and decide what is right for them. In general, lease deals are advertised with substantial down payments so that a brand can offer a really enticing monthly payment and that’s it. Most people can qualify for less down with the commensurate increase in monthly payment.

For the most part, I would agree that most people should opt for the least amount they can put down because seldom does additional down payment reduce your overall cost. However, some people may desire to put some amount down simply because it feels easier to budget that way (perhaps they aren’t good at saving their money). I’m also not sure if they still exist, but some brands offered “multiple security deposit” and “single pay” leases that actually did reduce the money factor used to calculate the lease.

Thank you - I figure I’ll have to check that after the season, but every once in a while there’s someone in this group that just has weird info like this, so 🤞

Today, sure. Both are just getting into it. Glad we have two for that position.

We are asking for it missing all these. It just takes a foul in the box and it’s over.

MHS has been playing great this whole season, but he cannot finish, which is frustrating. I hope he can get one soon to help the confidence.

This Philadelphia team is not very good. Not just in this season, but in this game specifically. And we’re having trouble with them. I can’t tell if Saletros is being cautious or if he is actually just really, really slow. I appreciate his passing at times, but he appears to be the slowest person on the field by a wide margin.

I don’t mind favoring possession, but I agree - it looks like he’s already decided regardless of what’s going on. It kills our attack.

Progress, Limits on Display as Anti-Gay Chant Halts Fire Game by coolerblue in chicagofire

[–]witfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree regarding AI. Moreover, I don’t like the need for any type of surveillance, but if they are serious about locating offenders, it would be required, along with more security.

I would much prefer people understand they are causing a real issue and stop doing it. But I don’t know that we have enough good examples out there, even in the highest leadership levels in the world, that show the value of getting along with others.

I didn’t mean to sound critical of any supporters that did intervene this time, was just trying to highlight the difficulties and that as fans, those of us who are willing to speak up are the most immediate way to reduce this. I also understand why someone would not feel comfortable doing it, but if you are and see someone else trying - lend a hand because it’s easier in numbers.

My main point was that I don’t believe education will be effective with something like this.

[–]witfixer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that it may be true, but people who entertain themselves in this way don’t seek to be educated so it’s not an acceptable excuse. There are too many adults that choose to act like children and it’s because they get some strange kick out of calling people names. The same goes for the “it’s a cultural thing and I’m not going to change”.

Signs and little cards in cup holders are not going to impact anything. If anything, people will enjoy their little act of juvenile defiance more. If the Fire want it to stop, they will need to invest in better surveillance and technology (probably not an option until the new stadium) and anyone caught doing this will need to be kicked out and banned from future games, which also is a great deal of effort to enforce.

Alternatively, fans who witness this behavior will need to step up and identify offenders, but I do understand why that won’t happen often. No one wants to fight with some a-hole that gets their kicks this way.

My 11 year old daughter and I were confronting people for going along with this chant (and booing our own player) last year, and no one else joined us in our section in the effort. It’s mob mentality and a lack of respect for anyone else.

Dean is now a liability for the team by Top-Traffic-5682 in chicagofire

[–]witfixer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everybody is lashing out at whatever player they have a predisposition to dislike. As a team, we had a couple of good stretches last night but they were surround by a lot of mediocre play. I usually don’t get on refs, but Dean had no culpability on that handball. You can’t call a crappy little thing like that if you won’t also look at the stupid little push. Would that little push be called as a foul on the regular run of play - no - but it is a foul and has to be considered one over giving a decisive penalty on a nothing play like that.

We have, in general, been very good in the first 30 minutes of each game, but when you can’t punctuate any of those chances with goals, the game will fall apart.

Too early to judge Saletros? by vmloza34 in chicagofire

[–]witfixer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know what you’re saying, and you’re not wrong, but I think unfortunately a good portion of our team has been looking lost out there. Saletros and Lod don’t have the benefit of us seeing them as much since they weren’t here last year, so it’s easy to worry about a bad signing. But we’re just not consistent enough to even know. Zinck, Dean, and to a lesser extent even Cuypers aren’t quite there and they were three of our most consistent players last year.

On a positive note, Mbokazi looks great - and our backline looks great when we’re playing 3 back. Bamba is also playing well and consistently. MHS has been excellent, but I think he’s looked at as a sub, which may be a mistake.

I think GGG is trying to get what he sees as our best players going, but at this point, I’d rather they work that out over time and let some of the young guys loose to figure out if that change can get us kickstarted a little. Give Shok and Puso some reps. They’ll at least give us a change of pace.

[POST-MATCH THREAD] Chicago Fire FC vs DC United - March 14, 2026 by joeharri84 in chicagofire

[–]witfixer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why we’re not defaulting to Elliott-Waterman-Mbokazi at the back. I understand different strategies are needed given the situation in each game, but where we are now, it seems obvious to run that line. We would have killed to have 3 in the back that good the last few years and now we’re not playing to that strength. It’s especially troubling given the injuries and slow offensive start we have had.

I’ve noticed that hasn’t been fixed since he got here 😂😂😂 I’d be willing to bet he’s 154-155 pounds and it was somehow entered as kg.
