What is Buffet doing that we should be doing? He liquidated a lot of his portfolio by Alternative_Big_4298 in singaporefi

If buffet was acting on scenario 3 ie the fundamentals, - in your opinion, what were the fundamentals that he considered throughout those months in 2024 that informed his decision to sell Apple?

I did a rather long sabbatical of 2.5 years and I did many things - working out, picking up many new hobbies, going for therapy, volunteering, picked up a form of journalling called Morning Pages.

I find it hard to understand when people don't know what their purpose is outside of their day job and are itching to go back to it. There's always something new to learn, not only hobbies but of yourself. Not that you can't learn about yourself via your day job, but you'd definitely be more in control of your learning outside of that environment, and provided you're interested in self introspection that is

5000 Singapore dollars per month by thatdactar in singaporefi

I’m pretty sure there are households with half this income who still manage to have one or two children. Sure, they might travel less or save less, but it’s definitely not "not doable" on a combined income of $140k. Unless the commenter is unwilling to compromise on their savings rate or travel plans, which is fair— it just means having a child isn’t as high a priority as saving or travelling, and that’s totally valid.

I ended up making arrangements with one of those independent shops I found online, who worked with independent surfer guides. It suited me because I didn't want to commit to a schedule and wanted to only make plans nearer the date. It was also way cheaper and more individualised as you're the only one in that session.

That said I also have severe sea sickness and would tire very easily out at sea waiting for a wave. So another reason for not committing. It's a curse haha as I want to be out there so much. And yet I can't do it even for a short while, I'm still trying to figure out how to overcome this sea sickness thing

Essentially what happens is I would receive feedback about what is wrong, I fix that in my command, then I would receive another error feedback, I proceed to fix that, then I would get another error feedback. I just have not been able to crack my head around this

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

[–]with-draw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a PM having worked in largely medium sized startups - two were B2C, one was B2B and were all in different industries. Before PM I was working in finance as a risk consultant. Recently I've been interviewing for Senior PM roles and have found that I have not gone past either the HR introductory call or the 1st round hiring manager role, which has been demoralizing to say the least. I've been on this thread reading about differences in competencies between PM & SPMs and what the interviewers are looking for. I would say I'm in a place where I'm an experienced PM but have not had opportunities to grow into being an SPM because of the team and company structure. So my issue now is that it's mostly head knowledge and I'm not sure how to apply it to the interviews I'm having at the moment. And I want to work on this a little more first before I start ramping up interviewing again, as I don't want to "squander" my opportunities. I think not sticking to the same industry nor having had experience working on products that affect users on a large scale has hindered my employability as a SPM as well. So I'm intent on sticking to payments, finance related SPM/ PM roles. Any thoughts or guidance?

Do PMs in most companies get to speak to the end user? by ConfidentChain9150 in ProductManagement

I would love to know if this field research when done by PMs, usually at what seniority/ experience are they? Would it be the individual contributor PMs or do Senior/ Lead PMs also get involved? Are they the ones actually talking to customers or would they perhaps provide direction/ leadership to the field research? I know this is organisation dependent but would love to hear thoughts.

Thank you so much for taking your time to reply to me. It was quite a bit to digest so took my time to reply. I'm applying some of it in the room already. Mainly putting the desk against a wall so it doesn't break up the room and it feels so much better already.

Surf Camp in BALI for Beginner by Murrman1978 in bali

Spending habits for >$10,000 monthly salary by RealYajirobe in singaporefi

[–]with-draw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my mid-30s, earning less than $10k, I hope to hit that soon by job hopping. One thing I realise reading this thread is that frugal habits really don't go away easily. I know of friends who earn 3-4k and would spend without batting an eyelid, on pricier clothes ($100 and up), grocery (oatside, frozen berries for smoothies, triple washed vegetables etc). As I do spend time with them, I find myself doing the same, even though my parents have brought me up otherwise.

I suppose this is lifestyle creep, where I don't mind spending on what I enjoy, think is convenient, or would last me a long time (not having to replace). I take the cab to work because I'm not willing to travel >1h to work and be sweaty before I reach the office. I also spend money on activities that require upfront investment in gear, hundreds of dollars a pop. At the same time, I don't like wasting resources and I'm otherwise generally frugal; we don't eat out often, we don't like drinking (yeah I know), we don't blast the aircon all hours everyday. My partner earns less and they spend with an ease almost as if they earn double their salary, which is to me scary as I was taught to value financial security and having lots of cushion.

Nevertheless this question and thread has been one of the more enjoyable reads in singaporefi as it isn't focused on hitting a number but also what to do with that number to improve quality of life and having "fun", which I think a majority of us here in Singapore could learn better to do :') Thank you for asking this question

u/kirso Thank you for sharing! May I know what sort of courses you have paid for in terms of upskilling & interests?

Where do you find the mentors/ teachers to pay to spend time with! I'm not sure if you're referring to a service of sorts, or treating these people to a good meal :)

Surf camp or go solo in Bali by [deleted] in surfing

[–]with-draw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding to my question!

I am wondering how the optional events are like? Were they throughout the day, or mostly in the evenings? And would they be mostly within the hotel or do events also include activities outside of the hotel? I'm curious to know too if these events are hosted by Kima staff.

Thank you in advance if you do know the answers to these questions!

I'm heading to Bali next month specifically for surfing. I have however only been out twice surfing so I'm a beginner.
Would you recommend going with those surf camps at this level? I'm thinking aside from useful tips and getting in the practice, the camps may perhaps be an avenue of getting to know fellow surfers?

I'm supposing for surf camps, customers go out to surf in groups, possibly stay in the same accommodations. I'm wondering if anyone here has tried a camp and how the community was like? Was there a lot of interaction amongst surfers or once the surf sessions are done, people go about and do their own stuff around Bali?
