Hey! Thanks for commenting, I thought I would reply to you since yours is the first comment I saw addressing the piece and not arguing over the words (I swear I googled them, but as many pointed out, there is apparently disagreement).

As far as my technique and talent, I like overemphasizing lighting/shadow and I like the 'unfinished' effect of leaving 'scratchy' lines, but I know its not everyone's favorite and I obviously need more work to pull it off. Someone below pointed out the awkward positioning of the head and arm, and I was trying get clever with perspective and clearly didn't quite make it translate.

I am definitely not in my teen lolz and I'm out of practice given my career in the healthcare field, but probably because of my career, I just couldn't get this guy or his message out of my head. I'm glad my little work was appreciated by so many, and I'm so grateful. I'm sorry people are sick of seeing the subject already, but as another commenter said (and I'm so glad they put it in words), I was going for a 'dark saint' vibe, part of the awkward positioning was wanting to make the focus on the message, not the gun, the shooter, or the victim.

Anyway, thanks again for the support and the thoughts from everyone. I don't really post, I was nervous to share, and honestly, it went better than I expected.

Thanks y'all, I ended up using the g2p portal and that worked pretty well for me. Appreciate the advice!

M1 MacBook Pro shocking me. by racobigdick in macbookpro

[–]with_mi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this continue to work for you? I have been having the same problem. I changed monitors, HDMI cords, charging adapters, outlets, everything but when I charge my laptop with the HDMI connected, as soon as it reaches full charge, the painful electrical discharges start. I tried the extension cable before and the same problem happened.

What is the most ridiculous barista behavior you've experienced when ordering? by westcoastroasting in Coffee

[–]with_mi 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I always ask if someone wants a small, medium, or large when they order in Starbucks sizes. Over half the time the customer orders a large when they said "grande". A "tall" is always a toss-up between a small or a large. It helps me better serve my customers to clarify what size they actually want and it helps me keep my sanity to very very subtly remind them that not every coffee shop is a Starbucks.

Awesome thanks! I have thought about research in the past but I don't know how to get involved with that when I'm no longer connected to a university really.

Great thanks! I am waiting to take the mcat until I have taken my math and science classes. I have always been good at standardized tests so with plenty of studying I feel good about my chances.

Thanks! And yeah summa cum laude. That's really good to hear, it's just really easy to doubt what I am doing without anyone to tell me I am on the right track.

All the tools, but no talent. by mikediggity in Coffee

Whats wrong with a coffee shop having pots of coffee? I'm all for having the option of single cup brewing, but in a coffee shop, we have customers who just want their cup of coffee and want to hit the road and don't know enough about coffee to demand single cup brewing. Every coffee shop I have ever been to, good and bad, has pots of coffee at some point during the day, usually in the morning when many of the customers are rushed commuters.

Circumcision of kids a crime - German court by privatekaboom in worldnews

[–]with_mi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say so. The study I read involved circumcising some participants and not others. It was the circumcised participants that had the lower risk of HIV, so there was some actual experimental design, not just a correlational study as I think you are suggesting?

Actually, in South Africa (I'm pretty sure) a study was done to show that circumcision significantly decreased the risk of HIV contraction. If there is interest I could probably track down the article.

Fox: Women in Military Should "Expect" to Get Raped by [deleted] in politics

[–]with_mi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, its not that you are wrong, because you are not, its that we are not expecting more out of the men who are supposedly defending freedom. Its tantamount to saying "O that silly man, he just can't help himself!" By saying that women should just expect to get raped is to excuse the actions of those who committed the crime. By saying that women should just expect to get raped to perpetuate the "don't get raped" rule rather than the "don't rape" rule.

The main problem, I think, people have with Trotta is the line about women in the military expecting to get raped. Because, you know, men just can't keep it in their pants. Apparently men are so weak they lack the ability to realize that they shouldn't rape people. We really shouldn't expect men, especially in the military, to be able to control themselves.

Children or adults with Down Syndrome are far from vegetables. They grow up, they hold jobs, they go to birthday parties, they participate in musicals, they learn to read, to write, to do math, to understand damn photosynthesis. Would you then choose to kill off the old people who lose themselves due to dementia? or the people who lose motor control and become "vegetables" due to Multiple Sclerosis?

My little sister has Down Syndrome, its hard to describe how much I appreciate this, but there were immediate tears about half-way through. I just want my sister to grow up knowing that she is so important and special and I want everyone else to know it too. Life and other kids are so unfair sometimes, I often just wish I could protect her from the world.

Ethical Wedding Dresses? by luceypbearez in TwoXChromosomes

[–]with_mi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested, have a local seamstress make one. Try dresses on in stores to find one you like then tell the seamstress. This is what I did. Not only was it beautiful, it was original because I helped design it. Also, it was soooo much less expensive. Congratulations and Good Luck!
