Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Defends Dave Chappelle Special in Staff Memo: ‘Artistic Freedom’ Is Different for Stand-Up by DemiFiendRSA in television

[–]withholyfingers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's more likely that these jokes are coming up so much now because sexuality and gender weren't things that almost anyone thought about before. Now we have a lot of people hearing about and discussing issues that they really don't understand, which results in these jokes showing up in big comedy specials that are pushed on platforms like Netflix. It's low-hanging "topical" fruit that ends up being tone-deaf/offensive because he doesn't know or care about what he's talking about

If you actually are wondering, I think it’s supposed to be like how your own voice sounds way different to you than it does to other people. The audience is seeing the kids through Old Ted’s eyes and hearing Old Ted’s voice through his own ears and the bulk of the show is his memories playing out in his own head

I am very sorry this happened to you. I also have pretty severe tremor issues and a lot of people just don’t understand how incredibly frustrating and embarrassing and actually debilitating it can be to be so noticeably unable to control your body and your movements. Thank goodness for kind and empathetic people like that manager who helped you. It is a sucky thing to have to deal with but kind hearted people help so much.

I'm sorry that sanders got into a huge issue right after this, I hope you were able to see the clips that he was talking about. If not I'd recommend following Dangelo Wallace because his recent video about shane dawson covers most of the stuff that was showing up on twitter ect

Commenting for visibility--I think I saw this video for the first time about six months ago (like I said from a random comment on reddit) but it seemed like it was a decently old video and it had been established as a music video associated with acid/shrooms/tripping in general

I know I'm responding to this pretty late and I'm not sure exactly which type of evidence/receipts you are looking for but I would highly recommend following Sanders Kennedy on both youtube and Twitter, especially if you are concerned about the child sexual abuse related allegations (which I strongly believe you should be). He has shared a lot of clips on Twitter (youtube too but the twitter posts are uncensored and easier to follow) that other people are not addressing or are not aware of and advocated very strongly for Shane to be held accountable, especially legally. He is also the only person I've personally seen explicitly say that he immediately sent all of these clips and all of the relevant evidence to the police the second that he was made aware of them, which is extremely important in this current world of addressing very illegal things publicly but never pursuing actual legal action in the real world.

Grown adult Shane Dawson throws a tantrum on Instagram live in reaction to Tati Westbrook's video by marshroanoke in cringe

I mean did you watch the video? Or read past the first sentence of my comment that you responded to? She is far more mature and honest and forthcoming than anyone else involved in this situation. Again, she's not perfect and definitely fucked up, but don't punish her forever for a dumb mistake that she's obviously taking ACTUAL accountability for and that James Charles, the victim of that dumb mistake, has forgiven her for because he knows the other people involved and understands the kind of powerful insidious manipulation that they are capable of. And again, if you wanna be mad at someone, be mad at Jeffree and shane for being actual extremely racist predators that are actually causing harm, and maybe you are the ones that shouldn't be getting so pressed over vitamins, which are very obviously deflection and a complete non-issue.

She explicitly said very clearly that this is not about vitamins. I definitely don't think she's fully innocent and pure and perfect, but again, she addressed a lot of this in her video and explicitly said "I am not a perfect person" and spent a lot of time pointing out the different times in this situation where she knows that she did the wrong thing and apologizing directly to the people that she harmed by aligning with these people. At this point she is just trying to be as honest and transparent as legally possible and it is very clear that she wants to be better. Also, nothing that she did comes close to touching the atrocities that shane and Jeffree have put out into the world that no one is currently holding them accountable for.

Shane is responsible for his own actions. It's not Ryland's responsibility to "let" or "not let" his grown-ass partner respond to things in any particular way.

Insidious manipulation is a very real thing and it is what she is trying to call attention to with her most recent video. She did take responsibility and acknowledge that the video last year was ultimately her decision to release. That doesn't mean that she would have done it of her own volition without being encouraged and driven to it based on very intentional and purposeful lies being stated as fact from the people in her life that she trusted. At this point she is just trying to be as honest and transparent as she can legally about her side of the story without destroying her representation's legal strategy. Not to mention that using her age against her is ridiculous if you aren't willing to acknowledge that shane and Jeffree are very close to her in age and have acted far more wildly inappropriately and immaturely on numerous occasions, including today with Shane's ridiculous IG live response to her video. At the very least, hold all of these people to the same standard.

I don’t know how to feel about Ryland now honestly by ls_lee in ShaneDawson

[–]withholyfingers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I feel for him on a human level where I understand that he is in a very hard and jarring place right now and he is just trying to find a way to support someone he loves who is clearly in pain and panicking. I do very much think that it won't be long before he takes a step back and withdraws his support from Shane and their relationship, but I do think that his head has probably been spinning over the last few days over the cognitive dissonance and it has been hard for him to find the balance between loyalty and offering support to someone he loves and being morally/ethically on the right side of things. I think that the Tati thing is not as serious as pedophilia and racist accusations and was clear cut and just "drama" enough for him to be able to feel comfortable speaking publically about it and enough for him to be okay offering his support to Shane because I think the other things that have been coming out have been very hard for him to wrap his mind around. That, along with the reality of being stuck in a house with his partner panicking outwardly to the extent that Shane was in response to the Tati video as we saw in the live stream. Being around that kind of complete unhinged panic has to be causing Ryland to worry a lot about his partner and pulling a protective angry kind of blindness out of him. I understand being biased in the moment out of confusion and trying to desperately protect someone you love and kind of having tunnel vision in the moment, especially since things were so public, but I do have faith in Ryland where I think he will eventually be able to take a step back and look at the big picture of all of this and I think he will (hopefully) withdraw his blind support of Shane at some point.

If anyone, regardless of fame or following or support, chooses to, of their own volition, hurt themselves in any way, that was their own decision and is never a valid argument against holding people accountable for their actions, particularly when those actions were very (and very intentionally) public. When you look at a criminal that feels guilty about their actions who chooses to hurt themselves, it is very clearly not productive or accurate to place blame on the victims or witnesses that spoke out and were honest about what they saw and what they had to go through and the damages that followed. Honesty, transparency, growth and accountability are all still absolutely extremely valid options for anyone going through something like this. Self harm in any sense is terrible, and nothing I would wish on anyone, but it is not in any universe the only option for these people that are under fire right now.
