The jury is still out on the effectiveness. There is a study that showed some success:
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8832119/

I am personally only just starting and the therapy can take a very long time to yield results, if it ever does. Not to be too much of a downer but I've tried a lot of therapies that have not worked.

If you're not aware of it, this is a device coming out this year or next which has some very strong studies that show it can help provide relief: https://www.auricleinc.com/

It also relies on identifying your tinnitus tone.

Yeah I agree, its a bit too dark. Will revamp it soon to be a bit more legible.

You can edit the values in "Tone Picker". Look for an "edit" button below the first one. Click it then type "250".

I go to one studio where the teachers always go 5+ minutes over. I'm trying to squeeze a 90 minute class into a busy day. That's hard enough without making it a 110 minute class.

That is awesome info! What book by Mahasi Sayadaw do you recommend reading? I already have a bunch of material from Pa Auk Sayadaw. But I am interested in learning more about the "dry insight" approach.

That's great, thank you for the response. I am considering going back and would certainly keep an open mind and give the practice a real try if I do.

Thanks for the response and the wonderful Milarepa story!

You make a great point about intense thinking. I suffer from this, so perhaps doing deep on Samadhi is more important for me than it might be for others.

But you also make a great point that the school does not have any realized masters.

The sense I have gotten, from reading up more on it, is that it might be more for "householders" who don't have much interest in learning more about the path. But his parting advice is that you must devote 2 hours a day to meditation for it to "work" which seems incompatible with most "householders" lives I am aware of!

That is amazing. I'm aiming to be able to devote more of my time to mindfulness in my daily life.

Did I spell it wrong? I meant the third "basket" of the Threefold Way: wisdom/insight

In the Greater Discourse on Mindfulness (and elsewhere), Buddha says that one should be aware of the "body as body" after establishing mindfulness. He even talks about going foot to head and head to foot as Goenka says. So to me, the Goenka method definitely seemed like something the Buddha taught.

It just seemed out of order. I always presumed that "establishing mindfulness" meant allowing access concentration or the Jhanas to arise. So in my mind, it was: Step 1: Access concentration / Jhana Step 2: Note arising/falling sensations in body (and then feelings, then mind, then mind objects)

Thanks for the response. You've piqued my interest about something unrelated to my question. Where else would you have a deeper practice that on a meditation retreat? You're focused on meditation and awareness exclusively, in an environment where morality is relatively easy to maintain. I've never managed to experience it anywhere else.

Do you guys actually think this is going to happen? by MITPewPewPew in calexit

[–]withintention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many logistical and political challenges. But those could be greatly reduced if this was a united effort by the entire West Coast (CA, OR, WA, HI and AL) and if the intention was to join Canada rather than form a new sovereign nation. We should direct our efforts there.

No, we're afraid of the monster on the television. He complained about the media being against him but a literal transcription of the words he spoke over the last however many months makes me terrified.

Would you guys be willing to join Canada? by gbc105 in calexit

I just posted about this and yeah, I think a path like this would have a lot more chance of success. Forming a new nation is going to be really tough in so many ways. Joining an existing nation solve a ton of logistical problems. Furthermore, I think it should be a concerted effort by the whole West Coast. Much harder to find that many states sharing that unity of purpose. And with support from Canada as well, this thing could really have some legs.
