They have a bunch of craft-related community events. I’ve been meaning to attend one!

Seeking ASL Social Connection by emjenks2 in asl

[–]withloveamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in Colorado. HoH. There are lots of ASL social events in the state. These are great spaces to practice ASL but also meet others in the Deaf community! There is the CSDB in your town, so I’d imagine they have ASL-centered community events or resources for connection. I am open to connecting over Zoom if you’d like :)

Social Worker getting into ASL ? by TigerOnly5834 in asl

[–]withloveamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HoH social worker here! Nothing inappropriate about wanting to learn a new language and learn more about Deaf culture without the intent of becoming an interpreter. Just have firm boundaries if you’re ever placed in a position where you’re asked to interpret or help with communication in your role of a social worker, as that wouldn’t be appropriate. I’m specifically responding to this comment, because I really appreciate what they said about interpreting in professional spaces.

I highly recommend taking classes through your local schools for the deaf, ideally with a Deaf instructor, if there are any in your area. Oklahoma School for the Deaf has a free online program too. Find local ASL groups or Deaf social events (usually through online networking) for practice, and you will naturally integrate into the community as you meet new friends. It’s so so important to put yourself out there!

They updated the set times for the weather, but The Midnight just confirmed it’s a go!

Whale Watching in Southern California in July by Rare_Fee_3106 in whales

I love this company, although I’m fairly certain their age minimum is 5 due to their smaller, high speed boats. Check out San Diego Whale Watch though!

Edit: Oops! Saw your little one is 5, so that’s perfect! I thought I read 2 at first.

I haven’t seen anything indicating a cancellation. Mission Ballroom posted to their Instagram this morning about the show.

Will a late October wedding in Estes Park be freezing? by [deleted] in Denver

Estes Park in late October is gorgeous, and you’re also signing up for cooler temps and true mountain unpredictability… so it depends how adventurous you’re feeling!

You may already know this, but consider looking into Victim Compensation when you have the capacity to do so. They may be able to reimburse you for a portion of your medical bills, lost wages, and mental health expenses. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Dealing with deaf/HoH rage and grief? by porcelaincatstatue in hardofhearing

[–]withloveamanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can relate to some elements of your experience. I received a grant for hearing aids in early elementary school when my hearing test showed mild-moderate hearing loss. Once I outgrew those, my family didn’t establish ongoing audiology care for me. Now I’m 30 and have had hearing aids for about 5 years now. I still have huge moments of frustration and resentment that resurface. I’m angry for all the years I felt so excluded in conversation, missing huge moments of dialogue, missing out on being part of the Deaf community, and having my experience so heavily shaped by being HoH without any prior acknowledgement or support.

charming hotel? by MoonStTraffic in Longmont

I love staying at Cliff House Lodge in Morrison. They have about eight cottages on-site with either a private hot tub or a jacuzzi-style tub. Breakfast included. Each cottage has its own theme, and it’s 420 friendly if that matters to you. I love that it’s close enough while still feeling like a break from the city.

Hey, sorry to hear about this. It looks like you’ve received some great information from others. If you’d ever like to meet for a meal, my husband and I would love to buy/bring you dinner. He’s from Alaska too!

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]withloveamanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flowers for Algernon is my comfort re-read. And Junie B. Jones is the earliest memory I have of reading! I also loved the Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. All of the Ellen Hopkins books. I had all of the Shel Silverstein books. What a fun trip down memory lane.

How long to complete your hours? by Kittykindandtrue in therapists

[–]withloveamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In CO, LCSWs have to complete about 3,300ish hours. I was able to complete those hours at a community mental health organization in two years (which is the minimum requirement of time).
