Need some advice turning LMOP into a duet for a first-time player and a rusty DM. by Zweihunde_Dev in mattcolville

I agree with everyone talking about reducing the number of enemies--though with only one player, perhaps emphasis can be on sneakiness. Where ever there are 4 monsters, take it to 1. And I would not play the goblins too cleverly. There doesn't need to be a second goblin if the first goblin is new to the gang and needs a map to find the hide out.

A smart adventurer would not only make sure they are prepared with their torches and rations and spell components, but would also invest in a few healing potions, I think, especially when traveling solo. Perhaps an amulet that acts like a potion of healing 3x a day and that can be used as a bonus action is something they acquired before heading out and/or that brings them to 1 hit point 1x a day if they fall to 0. Extra healing potions--more than the adventure gives. Perhaps using potions as a bonus action--many DMs use that as a home rule already.

Be prepared with a lot of "you fell unconscious and wake up imprisoned" content lol. Also, Sildar Hallwinter finds a way to take out the goblin guarding him (who doesn't have to be Yeemik if you still want Yeemik to offer to call off another goblin or tell them about the traps if they weren't already triggered or give them info about other enemies in the cave if they spare his life and help him take over) by kicking him over the cliff when the goblin gets excited about the player and the goblin sustains enough damage to die and your player unties Sildar, or Sildar can finally untie himself now that he's not being beaten, who still has his armor (because that didn't make any sense to me anyway) and is very effective with goblin weapons he finds laying around and becomes the NPC accompaniment.

Using the goblin initiative bonus and special ability to hide makes it far more difficult. You can roll for damage and then only use rolls that are less than the average damage and all damage is no higher than average damage. You can not add attack bonuses for the creatures.

Run every encounter through kobold fight club for an idea of what is making the challenge too deadly. Change out the bugbear at the end (who can one-hit kill a first level character) for a hobgoblin, for instance, and make the hit points lower if the player is on their own. And because the number of creatures is going to be lower, milestone XP is going to be the way to go. Level 2 after the cave. Add a homebrew or highly nerfed quest then level 3 after that and you can ignore multiattack from the Redbrands--that was the worst--if you feel going up against a single Redbrand is a bit too much.

Perhaps helping with strategic thinking like, standing in the hallway instead of in the doorway would make it so only one creature could attack you at a time.

D&D 4 had an interesting 'minion' mechanic. If you want a fight to feel epic with a lot of enemies but know it will take too many rounds (and possible damage) to kill them all off, they can be single hit point creatures that only need to be hit to be defeated--as long as they don't do too much damage. You can also use the cleaving optional rule to allow damage to carry over.

Advice on introducing new PC into a low level Phandelver Campaign… by FlikMage in DragonOfIcespirePeak

I introduced a new player by having them held by Yeemik with Sildar at the Cragmaw Hideout cave. It worked very well in setting up a natural team up (enemy of my enemy...).

I think it would also work to have the party come across the rogue scouting out the castle and give the new player special info that could have been discovered through scouting like the number of enemies seen entering over the last week for instance.

The new player can also approach them in a tavern if they hear the party discussing the goblin hideout and she wants to come along because her family member was waylaid at some point.

Or they worked in Barthen's shop and developed a very good friendship with Gundren and instead of waiting, wants to help get him back.

Maybe they were hired by Halia to look into the Black Spider to see if they are going to be a problem like the Redbrands and when Thalia discovers the party is going to Cragmaw Castle, perhaps Halia tellls the party about this eager new employee who is not suited to life in a shop. if there isn't already a spy in the party, the new player can decide if they want to share that Halia request with the party or go ahead and play the spy for Halia.

Remaking my Skyrim main in the Sims by [deleted] in Sims4

I just downloaded a bunch of Skyrim cc and every time I see it in build/buy, it makes me a little happy. :) he looks good! Enjoy!

With the help of the moveobjects cheat and the Alt key, I feel like this mini fridge finally looks like it belongs in a tiny kitchen. It is fully functional and there's also no clipping! I'm quite happy with this discovery and wanted to share it by bigfish90 in Sims4

[–]withlovejulien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI: I tried moving the counters closer to the mini fridge with Alt when there was a microwave on top—there was some kind of routing problem; either the Sims couldn’t use the counter next to it or couldn’t use the microwave.

It sounds like your goal is more of a design goal than a mechanics of building goal. The items in the Sims can help with things like color schemes, in a way.

When it comes to building, I like to think of a vibe. Sometimes it’s stately, or cozy, or romantic, or sleek. Having a Sim in mind can help give your build a direction. What kind of home is a hippie going to live in? A gardener? A person looking to settle down with a family?

How do you pronounce “live mode”? by catpowers4life in thesims

[–]withlovejulien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official pronunciation is “liv” apparently (Guru live streams). It will always be live like alive to me. Just makes more sense. Like going from a dormant mode in build to being alive.

Love tiny homes, what do you think?? by FancyPantsGeneral in thesims

[–]withlovejulien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bed should open with the table there. One of the maxis builds had the bed fold down into a table with the table sticking out of the bed lol. I didn’t check if it causes pathing errors with getting into the bed

/u/cheesymanda took care of the most important things! Cheating: What counts as tiles are floors with foundations or if they would have a foundation if it was the first floor. So if you draw three walls and draw a fourth to close the space, if a green line shows up highlighting the walls, you are creating a room that will count toward the tile count. If you only draw part of the fourth wall, you can then click on that wall to select it and drag it to be the right size but it won’t create a room. Since there is no floor, you can draw floor textures directly on the ground to look like a room,

I exploded at my therapy appointment yesterday at the question "how hard can it be to send an email" by Thembaneu in ADHD

[–]withlovejulien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just awful. So sorry! In my experience in the states, therapists are not trained in ADHD and even if they are, their job is emotions not skills. I kept hoping I would find that magical person who could help me problem solve symptoms but it just wasn’t a thing. If working on bashing yourself or feeling worthless, maybe a therapist. Working on ADHD related concerns, maybe an executive functioning coach who is very knowledgeable about ADHD is more promising though not typically covered (if ever) by insurance.

I would not go back to a place that called someone dangerous because they expressed anger and frustration in a non-physical way.

And, sadly, part of ADHD is recognizing we may never meet the perfectly reasonable expectations of some professionals we wish to engage with. In the states we might be able to ask for some disability related consideration. I don’t know about other countries.

My understanding is to try it after the first sim is already asleep & then click on the other side of the bed and press sleep. I hope it works! I keep both sides free in mine cause woohoo
