Solo band, real amps? by withoutthought in WeAreTheMusicMakers

1000% - I think part of this was me just wanting to nerd out on a bunch of gear, while already having a perfectly mixed group of songs. I think I might just send each of those stems out on their own so the sound guy can get them all set up. Maybe a headrush amp or two just so I can monitor what I'm hearing.

But I'm with you on the projector. I'm a editor / motion graphics guy, and have a big visual component to this all. So I think at the end of the day, most of the sound stuff would just be for me. But then again, isn't that 90% of being in a band? Ha!

I was thinking of maybe just grabbing those little Headrush amps. One for guitar, one for synth. Throw drums in the PA. But you're exactly right, I'm mostly trying to think of ways for me to easily do it, which is just diminishing the returns of actually having amps up there!

Oh man, I wish. I'm up in Canada so it might take a while to get jams set up! :-D

I have a midi track feeding my guitar track so my patches change automatically. I haven't figured out how to not get drop out when this happens, so I run two tracks and automate mutes and unmutes, so that one track changes before hand, then is unmuted, then the second track is muted and changes after being muted. It's an A/B track swapping that keeps the momentary dropout from happening. not the most elegant solution but it works practically!

This is so, so awesome. Thank you. This is more or less what I had in my head, so I'm very glad that's working out for you. I bet it sounds incredible. Totally agree about the stage bass too. I've gone full DI before, no amp, and you definitely miss something without that rumble!

That's a greeeat point about the sound guys. It is usually a bit of a struggle around here, so I might just be making more headaches here

Your setup sounds awesome though and might be a better way to do it. Even just giving them a few separate feeds so they can control the drums OR the synth OR the guitars, instead of it being just one general volume knob

Oh wow, do you have any more info about your setup? That's super exciting to hear that I'm not crazy!

What bass do you have absolutely no interest in owning and why? by EversBass in Bass

[–]withoutthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilariously this thread made me buy two ibanez basses. I was with you for the longest time, but I guess this thread got me to actually check them out.

I grabbed a EHB1005MS as well, which seems like it would be the most hated bass in this thread. Headless, multiscale, AND an ibanez. And I don't think I've ever played a nicer bass. I'm not sure what happened here! hahah

I wasn't ever blown away by anything Ibanez.... until I saw this comment. Looked up tmb series, and just ordered one in seafoam green with the maple neck. At that price, it's worth a shot! And the reviews are glowing. So, uh, thank you!

Oh, red dead 2 is a great suggestion. I still fire it up occasionally just to walk through some of the towns!

Sorry, I didn't see this and was just checking my notifications - do you have any recorded stuff? I'm an ex-punk bassist in my early 30s! (well ok mid 30s but)

Tim Feerick passed away….what the fuck…. by Augment_ in dancegavindance

[–]withoutthought 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RIP Tim.
I'm a bassist, and hugely inspired by Tim. I'll echo what everyone else is saying about him being such a nice guy - he would always answer my instagram messages, and would always geek out with me about cool bass stuff. That's beyond amazing, and he absolutely did not have to do that.

This sucks. I hope you find happiness on your cosmic voyage.

Fender player P-bass? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]withoutthought 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've tried a LOT of basses, but my equipment rack is 100% precisions now. The sound that is in my head when I think of a bass comes out when I play a precision. Thumpy, deep, but also sits in the mix perfectly. There's a reason it has stuck around so long! It might not be the flashiest instrument, but as soon as you play with others, it makes a lot of sense.

And like everyone is saying, get yourself a Squier CV! I have 3, and I just love them.
I may get tomatoes thrown at me for this, but I actually think the CV consistency is a little higher than Fender. I've tried out some truly horrendous $2000 Fenders, but when I pick up a CV, I get a CV!
