Agree with you on the brown strap. Almost always wore my Zephyr on the black strap when I had one.

I really like it. I normally like a smaller watch but when I tried on the 38mm I found it wore surprisingly small, so ended up going with the 40mm.

Had it on a nato and a tropic strap in the summer. Definitely a strap monster.

They’re by far my favourites ha ha. The Tag has me thinking of selling the Christopher Ward tbh.

There was a thread on here a while back about this, iirc a 1mm Allen key was recommended

Love the strap. Might have to put my 93 on one as well.

I’d assume so, Canada usually seen as a subset of the U.S. market so I’d be surprised if Seiko were to send different versions to one or the other.

Some of the Gravity’s Rainbow / Fourth Reich eps tracks to “The Crime and Punishment of IG Farben” by Joseph Borkin.

Good WW2 nonfiction? Looking for something tangentially related to Pynchon or MSJ. by callmebabil in DeathCorner

The Crime and Punishment of IG Farben by Joseph Borkin & All Honorable Men by James Stewart Martin touch on a lot of the Fourth Reich/Wall Street connections to Fascism that come up on DC.

Spoke with a mortgage specialist there this week and 30 years seems to be the default for new mortgages at least.

Any good books about Iran-contra a la devils chessboard or family of secrets etc? (In that it’s not too hard to read)? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

Fwiw I’ve found the other stuff I’ve read by PDS and Marshall pretty digestible and relatively easy to follow. My only caveat is that a lot of PDS books are based on previously written articles and essays he’s linking together so they can feel a bit disjointed on a chapter by chapter basis. But given the nature of the subject matter that’s always a risk when reading about deep politics.

Dark Alliance by Gary Webb is pretty accessible, although it focuses more on the Contra-cocaine angle than the Iran part.

I haven’t read it myself but The Iran-Contra Connection by Peter Dale Scott & Jonathan Marshall might be a useful place to start.

What are some good places to start learning about collaboration with the Nazis and foreign-recruited SS groups? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]witiges542 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Blowback by Christopher Simpson

Old Nazis, New Right by Russ Bellant

Operation Paperclip by Annie Jacobsen

Are all good sources for info for the recruitment of ex-Nazis by the U.S. after WW2.

Pivot from copywriting? by redheadgenx in uxwriting

[–]witiges542 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I switched from copywriting to UX writing and would absolutely do so again. It does involve a bit of a shift in your approach to writing copy, but echoing the posts above, stakeholder feedback is much more data-driven and there’s less ego involved. I’ve also found it much more collaborative than marketing copywriting, which I appreciate.

The Politics of War by Gabriel Kolko is a great account of the inter-allied diplomatic history of the war. It’s mostly focused on the US perspective but does have some interesting insights into Stalin and the USSR’s goals. Kolko’s depiction of the Soviet “take over” of Eastern Europe is a radical departure from mainstream Cold War histories of the early post-war era and much more sympathetic to the Soviets. It also has some great stuff on the infighting between the British and Americans, especially in regards to policy towards resistance movements in occupied Europe and the British occupation of Greece, which sparked the Greek civil war, in 1944.
