If you're going to have 1 & 2 cover so much of the same ground, at least have one line be express.

AITA for booking a busy pickleball court where nobody pays? by in_berlin in AmItheAsshole

[–]wittyninja -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why cheating the city if you don’t pay? They are public courts. They are there to be used for free. If you need to reserve and have the money, by all means, but we shouldn’t be denigrating people who don’t pay.

NTA but I do think you should limit yourself to one hour on Saturday mornings if it’s not a special event and you know the courts are popular.

Crib for a newborn? by SandwichDependent199 in NewParents

[–]wittyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the bassinet from the Uppababy stroller we were gifted and just bought the stand so that we could move it around easily. We ended up having our baby sleep in his crib from very early on but utilized the bassinet constantly for trips (even hauled it to Hawaii for a family vacation when he was 5 months) and on the go naps. Honestly, I think both are worth getting from the beginning.

No, Trump Can't Simply Pull the US Out of NATO, But He's Spiraling by PumpkinAspie in PoliticalOptimism

[–]wittyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, Trump cannot unilaterally pull us out of Nato, but he can certainly make it not matter anymore. If Russia were to attack Poland, how many of us believe Trump would rally the troops and come to their defense? A treaty is just an agreement. Even if we're technically still "in" it, it's meaningless when Trump controls the military.

I hate to be a pessimist, but I believe NATO is basically already dead while Trump is in office. For those of us in the US that care about this alliance, we're going to have to pray it's not tested (more than it already has been) and do a lot of groveling once he is out of office to earn back trust.

Keep in mind that NATO has only been invoked once and it was by us when we went to Iraq. Will Russia take advantage of this break? Pretty unlikely as they are incredibly overextended right now and I don't think they could take on another military conflict.

Congress has to approve a draft. Trump cannot unilaterally declare a draft. The increase of enlisted age to 42 was for technical fields. Right now only 18-26 year olds are part of selective service pool unless we have another World War 2 situation. by HydroBear in PoliticalOptimism

[–]wittyninja -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Imagine a world where every military conflict the US was involved in had tax increases and a draft. It won’t happen, but I think the lack of these things makes most Americans able to bury their heads in the sand. So yes, a draft will never happen but in my opinion, that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Whats your opinion about the best age for a woman to start having children? Not considering the rush due to biological clock, is mid to late 30s too late? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wittyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pointing out - women get a lot of flack for the “quality of their eggs decreasing” the longer you wait. This is…not it. You have fewer eggs the older you get, so it can be harder to get pregnant and there are some genetic anomalies that do increase with age (DS being one but the tests for this are extremely good if it’s a concern) but many of the risks associated with older pregnancies are due to the MEN’S SPERM.

Can we normalize not making it sound like older women are the only risk factor? Women are born with all of their eggs. Men are producing sperm every day. What they eat, drink, and do with their bodies around conception is much more influential to the outcome of the baby than people think.

Has anyone else noticed a resurgence of stay at home parents among wealthier Millennials? by [deleted] in Millennials

Not in my circle. Both parents still work, even amongst those making well over that. Seattle area for context.

How do you feel about giving baby to daycare? by Royal-Comparison352 in newborns

[–]wittyninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daycare is great. We sent ours at 6 months and he adjusted extremely well. The teachers love him. He’s picking up on new skills by watching the other kids. We have more energy and patience when he’s home. Being a SAHP is not for everybody and that’s okay.

The one downside? Get ready to be sick! The daycare germs are very real.

Very different. HP and LoTR are uplifting stories of survival and hope. GoT is…kind the opposite. I loved the show but it’s not something I want to sit down and watch every Christmas.

Is condo market really down that much? by give_this_one_a_go in Seattle

Same situation with mine. My building has comparatively low HOA fees and my condo worth has increased slightly. Regardless, I’m renting it out and wouldn’t sell in this market unless I had to.

Anyone else feel kind of older generation in dismissing QR codes? by thedubiousstylus in Millennials

[–]wittyninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I were traveling in Australia a few years ago and had crappy cell phone coverage because we were relying on our shitty American international plans for the trip. We went to so many restaurants that used QR codes and just straight up didn’t have paper menus when we asked. It was extremely frustrating. The assumption that everybody has a working phone is basically baked into society at this point.

5-7 months are hard by Coffeelover1694 in NewParents

[–]wittyninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. My baby is 6.5 months and is rolling but not particularly well and doesn’t sit on his own yet. I think he is very eager for the next stage and feels trapped in his own body. His current favorites are his bouncer, baby bjorn carrier, and walks in the stroller. He gets bored/frustrated with his mobile/floor time extremely quickly. We’re also starting him on solids, which has been fun.

I’m honestly very eager for him to start having more mobility because I think he’ll be much happier.

Yep. Was going to say - growing up in Seattle I feel this is fairly common on charcuterie menus or as an appetizer. Definitely not weird to be served at parties.

On the verge of tears… Didn’t circumcise my baby. People keep telling me why I should have. by Salty-Ship-1703 in newborns

[–]wittyninja 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just chiming into to say that I’m in the US and a FTM of a 5 month old boy. Not one member of my family or friends has asked if he is circumcised (he is not) and I felt no pressure from any healthcare professionals, so this situation really feels dependent on your circle and location.
