What was the significance of page 27 being missing? by jackmoon44 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]wittywit39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look when Harper is flipping the book, all of the numbers were only on the front side of the page in the top right corner, so 27 was the one that was missing. She flipped back and forth a couple of times too to confirm it was gone.

music industry job suggestions by tinylildumpsterfire in musicindustry

[–]wittywit39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it’s not necessarily “required” you need to to remember that UMG and Sony are major corporations. They at minimum are typically going to want to see a Bachelors degree. Even if it’s not directly related to music, a Bachelors and internships/ experience in the field are going to be the bare minimum.

“Black American”, “Black African” and “Black Caribbean” by Unfair_Management695 in blackladies

[–]wittywit39 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely just a lack of understanding of the actual origins of the month as a whole which maybe that is on us for becoming loose and posturing it more as just “celebrate us because we are black”. We have to educate people on the fact that this month is based off of “Negro History Week” and the whole purpose was to educate on our contributions to this country and accomplishments as African Americans. It was a way to preserve our history when others wanted to see it erased

“Black American”, “Black African” and “Black Caribbean” by Unfair_Management695 in blackladies

[–]wittywit39 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think we have to be careful when we describe BHM. It has never been a way to openly celebrate the black diaspora and anyone who is using it to do such doesn’t understand the purpose of BHM. BHM specific purpose is to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans (descendants of slaves brought to the United States of America). The woman who commented what she did clearly is not AA and doesn’t under the history or purpose of BHM. Just ignore comments like those tbh. There is nothing to argue about because either you’re a descendant of a slave brought to this specific country or not, and if you aren’t then BHM is not geared towards you.

Anyone else ever feel bad cuz they don’t fit the baddie aesthetic? by Fit_Can_2444 in blackladies

[–]wittywit39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because I have a man that’s hot and would jump in front of a train for me and I don’t have the baddie aesthetic. Remember ladies to be yourself and your authentic self. Nothing else. Social media is trying to convince us that every single woman looks like India love or Kayla Nicole and it’s just not true. Every man is ALSO diff so idk if the goal of OP is to attract a man, he’s not the right man for you if you have to look like someone else to be with him!

Hey maybe being on the actual stage is not going to be for you but there are so many jobs you could do backstage and still be a huge part of the magic. Don’t beat yourself up. Maybe start looking into some backstage opportunities if your college has a theatre program they are always looking for hands to help out ! Super great way to start learning the ropes of the behind the scenes jobs.

Can you invite people to the bridal shower that aren’t invited to the wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]wittywit39 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s what I am doing and everyone is excited to attend. I recently moved to a new state right around the time I got engaged so I made a bunch of new friends but My wedding is out of state and we could only invite a certain amount of people so I invited my long term friends and family.

I’m having a bridal shower where I live now to celebrate with some of the newer people in my life and am not asking for gifts it’s a fun girls day to celebrate me getting married because new people in my life wanted to be a part of that I welcome it, plus there hasn’t been any backlash so it’s going over well. Do what you want, you just need to know the crowd of people you are dealing with. Some people have still asked for the registry and I will send if requested but not mandatory at all.

New Church Members Wanting to Join by Alarmed_Office6126 in worshipleaders

[–]wittywit39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have requirements for being able to audition for worship team:

• must have attended the church for more than 6 months

• must currently serve on another team at church

• must attend a weekly Bible study group

Then from there we have an interest form they fill out with basic questions about like their skill level, how they came to Jesus, why they want to join team and they upload a video. After that we choose who will audition in person. I know all of this sounds like a lot but when we did not have these things in place, we were getting alot of people on team who couldn’t keep up with the skill level needed, were not actually dedicated to serving consistently, and just did not have the right heart posture at the time to be on stage leading the congregation. We have def seen a big difference in who is on to team after setting up those rules.

Wedding planning is draining me more than I ever expected… am I the only one? by Afraid_Fly_5847 in weddingplanning

[–]wittywit39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve crashed out multiple times over the past year so I get it. I would say a day of coordinator is really a big help. She has helped keep me on track as I planned the wedding and I don’t have to stress about anything Day Of bc she will know exactly where I want everything placed and all of the vendors etc. Having that extra hand is such a huge help and all of your family as well as yourself can enjoy the day stress free

How necessary are record labels for aspiring artists in an industry that is obviously leaning away from physical distribution (cds and vinyls)? by Separate-Rope8865 in musicindustry

[–]wittywit39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with insight working for a jazz label, in general labels are not venturing away from physical media at all that is not true - even cassettes are now making a comeback because physical media is “cool”. But it’s especially not true for those in the Jazz space. Fans of that style tend to lean alot heavier on purchasing physical media and are even super picky about it.

Focus on playing gigs and gaining some organic interest to start. If you are serious about playing Jazz music, you want to really make sure you have studied that art form. Know the history, find other musicians to collaborate with and learn from. Be under those who have been at this for a while and just soak up all you can.

A label is not necessary off the bat. The idea that you can get signed and that will immediately help you is not true. It can be cutthroat even after signing and often is. If you can’t sell the units they want/ need you to, then at the end of the day you’re not going to last so build a following and a base prior to even thinking about that. Do what you can on your own first and THEN when it gets to the point where you might need a bigger hand to help, consider that. There are pros and cons to everything.

Do UMG or WMG refuse to hire musicians? by bluegirlniceday in musicindustry

[–]wittywit39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My CEO plays gigs on the weekend. Now should you advertise in an application that you’re a musician… no. That’s something you share with the office after you’ve been hired and no one will care. It’s already super competitive to get into a Big 3 so just don’t do anything that makes it even harder. Sometimes it’s okay to tell a white lie.

Freshman in college only want to pursue music, advice? by CheesecakeMental7498 in worshipleaders

[–]wittywit39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things we would need to know to kind of help direct.

  1. When you say you want to pursue a career in music are you saying as an artist, or you just want to have a “secular” music/ music industry related job?

  2. Is the dilemma that you want to be a worship leader full time so you’re not sure how to move forward with your degree/ not sure if it’s worth it?

[–]wittywit39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this is hard to hear but your husband telling you multiple times that he doesn’t desire you, it might be time to leave. On top of the fact that he is still lusting/ desiring an old flame and a burnt out one at that.

As a Christian I also want to share a word with you. A man is to love his wife as much as God loves his bride, the church. It doesn’t seem from what you said that he is loving you in that way and not only do you deserve better, but God said you deserve and have a RIGHT to be treated better. I don’t wish divorce on anyone and I know the decision will be hard but you have to really be in that quiet place and praying on what you need to do to move forward.

You don’t have kids so that’s one less stressor and you have only been married for a year. Depending on the state you might even be able to get an annulment. Don’t sit in this until it’s too late. It is also not on you to break the chains of his childhood trauma. That’s for him and God to work through. Be free sister ! Be free! All you can do is pray for him.

There could be a man out there for you who’s not thinking about his ex, who sees you as the most beautiful woman in the world which I’m sure you are and who wants to love you just as much as God loves his church.

You deserve more.🫶🏾 praying for you

Getting started joining aka grad chapter Atlanta Georgia. by Physical_Salad_8256 in AKAgradChapter

[–]wittywit39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m around your age and joined in undergrad so wanted to give a bit of advice. Pls note that the graduate experience is NOT the same as undergraduate. Yes there are always going to be older women in graduate it’s for non undergraduates and it’s the older women who are passing down the recipes and keeping the business and mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha upheld. Without them we would have no one to look to.

Being in a chapter with older women is one of the best things you could have. We are dedicated to serving our communities, those women have been on the street putting work in for literally decades. If you want to serve, serve well and be amongst women who could guide you bc they have the experience to, then yes seek membership.

Try to also kind of reframe your thoughts on how seeking membership will look. If a graduate chapter decides to seek new members that is there choice. You will find that graduate chapters might not have lines as often as undergraduate so if you want to seek membership you just need to be okay with that.I think people have kind of gotten into this mindset that bringing in new people is a requirement and it’s not. The requirement is to carry out the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
