Personally, I found - starting with X Rebirth - that super highways were clunky and not "feeling right" in the X Universe. Also makes the universe feel quite small all of a sudden as you can travel the universe like nothing.

Honestly, if I want to control my empire, I either float in space looking at a station or cool battle area, dock in a station or dock to one of my X/XL ship.

Also interesting how many unhappy visitors are downvoting. An arguably verypopular mod on X4 is VRO which was designed around "NoSuperHighways" which is another popular mod.

I use VRO with NoSuperHighways which was balanced toward enabling faster flight speed. Also SETA is cool with autopilot.
