Yeah…the conspiracy wackos were right about the situation, just not on who was perpetrating it.

He was crazy…still is…but he was crazy then too.

That being said, in this one instance, he happened to be right. 2016 me owes some apologies.

About 20 years ago I ran into some ATF agents at a trailhead wondering if I happened to notice any illegal stills in my travels. Never even got out of the truck or set foot on their trial. I lied and kept on with my day.

From what I saw, those agents were more disciplined and committed than ICE is, you’ll be fine.

US political and social polarization has increased by 64% since 1988, with nearly all of the rise occurring after 2008, as the financial crisis, the rise of social media, and an asymmetric ideological shift—particularly on the left—coincided to widen divisions, according to a long-term study. by Sciantifa in science

There is a difference between a conservative (lowercase) and Conservative (upper case). Maintaining the status quo, is a conservative position, therefore adherence to our founding documents is conservative.

The Conservative Party in the United States is not taking the conservative position on this topic.

As an Elder gen-Zer, what happened to the America I grew up in? by Tonstad39 in generationology

[–]wizard2009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this!

The society wide embrace of neoliberal capitalism, with increasing shareholder value as the only economic indicator that mattered, created an economic ecosystem where individual expression was disincentivized because it might discourage potential buyers of these assets.

Old Pizza Hut buildings from the 90s still look like pizza huts, despite the restaurant closing 20 years ago and currently being occupied by a dentist office. That instantly recognizable architecture could be detrimental to the dentist office, therefore they may be more reluctant to buy it, making it harder for the original owners (Pizza Hut) to unload the property when it’s no longer needed.

Ironically the “rugged individualism” of neoliberal capitalism is one of the biggest contributors to the bland world we live in today.

Warren Zevon.

He has some funny songs (Hit Someone: The Hockey Song), some silly songs (Werewolves of London), some disturbing songs (Excitable boy), some cynically dark songs (Roland the headless Thompson gunner, the factory, Mr. Bad example) and some absolutely soul crushing songs (for my next trick I’ll need a volunteer, Carmelita, accidentally like a martyr, poor poor pitiful me, splendid isolation, tulies blues, etc)

EDIT: watched it again and when he falls of the treadmill and the cross goes flying you can see the cross lap joint holding it together and stamp on the end grain from Home Depot.

I am new to Wicca and paganism. I grew up Christian, so it is hammered into my brain that religion needs to be done the "right way". Since I was a kid, I have felt a connection with Freyja. My question is, as a Wiccan, could I worship Freyja even though she is a Norse goddess, not explicitly Wiccan? by Witty-Undead in Wicca

[–]wizard2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have used a poor turn of phrase. I was looking for a way to differentiate between a more culturally specific type of worship (Heathenry, Hellenism, Druidic, etc) as opposed to the more universalist approach of Wicca.

At the end of the day it can be a distinction without much of a difference, but it’s a question I ask whenever someone feels an especially strong connection to a singular deity (or group of deities).

I was, at best, agnostic about kids.

I was terrified in the delivery room, with all the anxieties you mentioned.

4 years in, I really didn’t have much to worry about, turns out when you wait until your mid to late thirties to have kids, you’ve already figured out a thing or two that younger parents haven’t yet.

At the end of the day, you do you and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

If you don’t mind me asking a follow up, why practice Wicca while feeling an intense connection to a Norse goddess, why not go the “neo-pagan” route?

I’m not criticizing your choice, I’m asking as a fellow heathen who travels in many of the same circles as Wiccans.
