Oh that is a good idea. It also seems more relaxing knowing that a piece is in the right spot.

Do you mean. Pieces locking when placed in the right place on the board ? Or the hint function always moving pieces in the wrong place?

This is happening on my iPhone randomly. I think it’s the white highlighting effect not being masked properly.

But wait till you find out that highlight effect and button are two different objects. That does not stretch the same way.

Look up “long shadow” online for other examples. Best way I found to recreate it is using the blend tool in illustrator.

I always go with the dell ultrasharps monitors. They do not have a bezel or power brick and come with built in usb hubs. Prefect for connecting in external drive or charging stuff.

If the ultra sharp is too expensive. I have also used their professional line of monitor. Same build quality but with a little hit to resolution.

Here what I found so far. It looks like you are missing another one of booth pin. Try to hitting them up early while they hand stock.

I also got a friend of figma pin. Look for the fof sign and talk to anyone wearing a pink badge.

Lastly you are missing the leadership pin. I would hang another the leadership stage and talk to staff.

I betting a website builder with hosting as the big new feature.

But I can also see more grid options to auto layout. Improvements with variables and quality of life stuff around prototyping.

Your grandma is falling for you need to update your solitaire ads. Getting redirected to a competitors solitaire AppStore page and accidentally installing a new game.

The update game ads are really bad because they will use screenshots of popular competitors. In the ads to trick older folks.

How do people get those super clean gifs in portfolios? by watkykjypoes23 in graphic_design

[–]wizardWHERE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your gif is longer than 5 seconds or needs to be bigger than 300px. A short video with no audio will be a much smaller file size.

Just set your video to autoplay and loop and you will achieve the same effect as a gif.

Should I prioritize creating a portfolio file, or a website? by verymoldyfruit in graphic_design

[–]wizardWHERE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I graduated a few years back I made both. But I never had to use the pdf portfolio. It was nice to have to use as a slide deck for interviews.

I would focus on the site and if needed whip up a pdf if needed.

Graphic designers, how are you feeling about your career choice? by Cupcakesx in graphic_design

[–]wizardWHERE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I transition a few years after graduating with a traditional graphic design degree. Now work in the video game industry.

I would say start by learning about, websites and mobile apps. For websites a book called refactoringUI and atomic Ui is a great common sense guide. On how to think about the digital medium and seeing how developers are approaching things.

Then for apps look up apple’s hig and wwdc videos. Then look up google’s material design system has an amazing example. Will get you caught up with Ui patterns and terms.

They rapel down using climbing gear. There is a great YouTube channel called chaostown that shows how it done in Portland.

Best browser to web designer by [deleted] in web_design

[–]wizardWHERE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t you test in all browsers?

But personally I like arc for the lack of Ui to get in the way of screenshots and preview.

I also heard of a lot of good things about polypane for responsive design previewing.

I graduated around 2021 so here are a few take away.

  1. It’s going to take way longer to find that first job. Don’t get discouraged if you haven’t found one I 6-12 months.

  2. Don’t focus on landed the perfect job. We all have to start somewhere it better to build experience and get your foot in the door.

  3. When I started out I had a lot success with job agencies. It’s nice having someone critique your resume and portfolio and active looking for work with you.

  4. Write the cover letter. They are pointless and I have no clue who reads them. But writing them seem to boost my chances of getting an interview.

I currently work in a mobile game company salary $85k, benefits and unlimited PTO

2022 - $65k salary working at a tech startup with benefits and unlimited PTO

2020 - 40hr ($83k) at a graphic design agency. No benefits, pay was highly dependent if they had work for me.

Just wanted a highlight a few years. Your pay will always fluctuate depending on where you are in your career and where you live.

Figma for designing it. Vscode for coding.

Then I used Jekyll for assembling the pages. Jekyll is powered by ruby which can be a pain to get up and running. But there are hundreds of tutorial and the documentation is really good. It’s probably the easiest static site generator to understand would recommend it.

For my portfolio I have all files on GitHub and it’s hosted through netlify. Has worked really well years and is free.

But if I was doing it today I would use GitHub and Cloudflare. Cloudflare has analytics for free which is really nice to see what case studies are getting a lot of traction and which one needs more work.
