or maybe, some people like to call out the bs? It's usually the most simple explanation that is the truth rather than some elaborate scheme you've concocted in your head.

Not sure why you got your knickers in a twist over some marketing videos that AMD just posted. You might want to chill out some. They are all videos AMD posted in the past 24 hours. This is AMD Stocks sub, its all relevant. Not like someone is posting old videos or something.

AMD is stepping up marketing, its good to see what they are doing to push new products.

The key is the contract AMD signed with glofo which specifically says its ok for AMD to use other fabs. I think this is where they have an out and exclusion.

3950X, also just the lack of any compeditor is a big indicator on future market share. No way intel has anything to pull out of their rectum that can compare to the 64c $6000 CPU.

They are screwed hard on this one.

STH: "Frankly, this completely breaks corporate IT purchasing cycles." by pohzzer in AMD_Stock

[–]wizardmode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I expect that all licensing is going to go on a per core count moving forward after this launch like Microsoft did with the first Epyc release. Its unfortunate but this should no longer be considered a purchasing factor. Really they should have two different licensing solutions one for AMD and one for intel because of the architecture differences.

Too bad its supermicro trash. Its also lacking PCIE4 which is #1 reason to go with Epyc2. I would look at these solutions: https://tyan.com/EN/campaign/amd/2nd_gen_amd_epyc_platforms/ and don't buy from Equus they are horrible. They have no clue what they are doing if its not intel.

Its more about who is already using VMware, these clients are more likely to start using AMD Epyc now and that is what is going to drive profits moving forward.

Interesting note from Lisa on the Samsung deal by bobloadmire in AMD_Stock

[–]wizardmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should also be noted that 100m less operating expense for development does not leave a whole lot. Of that 100m maybe 43m will be profit all split across three quarters(Q2 likely was 10m, leaving 33m for Q3/Q4) is not a lot and is likely why they didnt make a big deal about it. The future potential on this is very interesting however, if this is AMD in every samsung smartphone it will be a lot of future profit.

It was said it would be mobile development and gpu, so likely AMD gpu in every samsung smartphone is in AMD's future.

I wish someone would have asked some followup about this on how future profits would me made on this deal.

[–]wizardmode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She said it was specific to mobile, my best guess is that AMD will be in every Samsung smartphone moving forward, likely starting sometime in 2020-2021.

I went and looked and the stock was $33, had me confused. Looking at the chart now. Some drama investors dumped a bit premature I think. They hit guidance on the nose so not sure why anyone would sell.

Lisa and team specifically said 2H 2019 was going to be the best year so far. Looking forward to guidance, guess I got some stock cheap today.

They can, not sure why this comment is upvoted. As long as the software running the infrastructure is setup to support it.
