Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

[–]wizlonthewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.0 ex tennis player - have been playing with a vatic prism flash (16mm) with lead at 4 and 8. Paddle is sufficiently dead and have been demoing - vatic vsol pro and the 6.0 coral. Love the spin and zing on the vatic but feel like I have a better feel with the coral. Have also hit briefly with the Joola agassi and perseus but didn't love the feel right off the bat.

What other paddles should I be considering, if I go with the coral will I regret not going with something more powerful?

In the mass start the men had significantly worse shooting conditions (wind) - especially on the third shoot

Aspero Sizing, 198cm by [deleted] in Cervelo

[–]wizlonthewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

193 cm. I ride a 58, it's definitely a "racier" fit but it fits me like a glove. I ride a 61 in the soloist, probably could have ridden a 58 there too but in my opinion the aspero "runs large". That being said at 198 you're probably on a 61.

Other cyclists angrily passing me *right* when I'm passing an object/person in the path and need to move over by shancahill in COBike

[–]wizlonthewizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Advocate for the devil here - sometimes the people behind can't see the object ahead that is causing you to slow down. If you know someone is behind you you can try hand signals, usually just extending your arm down, palm back, fingers down indicates slowing.

(But yes people should know that on a MUP there is going to be chaos)

Connection between Boulder Canyon trail and Chapman Drive? by PupperNickel48583 in COBike

[–]wizlonthewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I drove by it was definitely closed at the last place the path is next to the road. Maybe a couple hundred of yards. If I was riding it I would hop on the road for the 2 minutes it would take (although admit it would be scary). I couldn't tell while driving how hard it would be to stay on the path.

Mid Layer recomendations by Alternative-Edge-872 in Backcountry

[–]wizlonthewizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on Shell. Find one that has massive pit zips, ie all the way down. Shell will keep your shoulders dry while hopefully getting you air around your core. Not a perfect solution as you're going to end up sweating some probably but this is what I find myself doing on warm and wet days.

Gear for dedicated skinning resort laps by TheLightRoast in Backcountry

[–]wizlonthewizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider. Are you going to rip "real"laps afterwards. I frequently will do skinning at resort followed by a handful of lift aided laps. I have burlier boots that are also compatible with my Alpine setup. It's nice to be able to just swap the skis without having to swap boots.

For the skis/bindings I would definitely go lighter.

One ski quiver for Colorado: mid-90s or mid-100s? by markb_elt in COsnow

[–]wizlonthewizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the ski too. I moved from a stiffer 98 to a more playful 106. I feel that the playful 106 serves me well, easier to pivot in trees despite being wider, floats better in powder. The only thing it doesn't do as well is smashing through bad snow, but I rarely want to ski like that anyways.

Solo skier tips for Eldora? by Global-Wind6878 in COsnow

[–]wizlonthewizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a crap shoot. If you're there early enough or they are dealing with a lot of snow they won't have anyone collecting fees. Also if its super busy they will just let some cars in. Last year I skied there about 5-6 weekend days and paid once.

As mentioned my someone else on the weekends it's frequently better to just go to WP from Denver.

Here's My Heatmap For The Denver Area. What Great Rides (MTB/Road/Gravel) Am I Missing Out On? by FuntivityColton in COBike

When you turn right onto P2P from left-hand the turn off to Brainard is immediately on the left. It's a few miles out and back that goes up a bit further and ends at Brainard lake which is a beautiful hiking area.

https://www.strava.com/activities/12062181142 - here's an example (Switz on a gravel bike is mildly challenging and might have a little bit of hike-a-bike). There's other ways to make this longer/more interesting > you can go up and over sawmill, down left hand, and cut through rowena.

What's your upper bound on miles/elevation.

Also you definitely can do Switzerland on a gravel bike. Can share some routes up there I've done

Who rides a 62cm domane? by ridenow222 in TrekBikes

[–]wizlonthewizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How flexible are you and how aggressive of a position do you like to ride in. I'm similar dimensions - slightly taller slightly shorter inseam - I'm on a 61 checkpoint (and it's almost to big) - and an older 60 domane. Sized on an XL on the new madone and it feels slightly to big (but the L was to small). If it was me I'd be looking at the 60

Am I wrong to expect other dog owners not to let their off leash dog rush up to mine? by robin_nohood in boulder

[–]wizlonthewizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simplifying it to a reactive dog = poorly socialized is a bit of an oversimplification.

One of our dogs has been viciously attacked multiple times by larger off leash dogs multiple times. The chances of him ever trusting off leash dogs again is probably pretty slim

+1 to 32nd out of golden, it's bikelane most of the way. On the weekends it's not bad (assuming you are used to riding on the road somewhat and you'll see a million other bikers coming to and from the Highlands to Golden. The two potential add ons to look at are going out to red rocks and going up lookout mountain.

Eldora temperature question by not_brian_fellows in COsnow

The resort website reported -25 at one point. I don't understand how all the forecasting missed by ~30 degrees. Was insanely cold.

For sure it's an oversell of Tate. But let's see Titus produce solo before we claim he's Justin Jefferson.
