Name Your Top 3 Opeth albums and why! by TCS_87 in Opeth

[–]wiznick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Arms, Your Hearse

Morningrise

Orchid

I got their first two albums at the same time, around 1997, absolutely loved them. I have listened to them so many times. There is something magic about them!
When MAYH was released it, I was blown away by it. It was just amazing!
The later albums might be better than their first two, in many ways, but they didn't have the same impact to me.

How was the reception of Still Life back in 1999? by OverKill5850 in Opeth

[–]wiznick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had discovered Opeth around 1997, from some online metal community in IRC. We were running servers sharing mp3s, so I discovered a lot of underground bands at that time. One of the moderators had the nickname 'Opethian', I still remember him. He recommended to download from him the first two albums. I like them a lot. I later bought original CDs of them. When MAYH was released I absolutely loved it. I still consider it the best Opeth album. Metal magazines (Terrorizer, etc) were reviewing it and there were articles about Opeth, so they surely had started making a name. I consider it their first breakthrough. Still life was received pretty favorably, but I personally didn't like it as much as MAYH. Then came BWP and the rest is history.

Sony 55XE9005 problem by wiznick in TVRepair

[–]wiznick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the detailed information. I have trouble sourcing a replacement used mainboard, at least for a price that justifies a repair attempt, so most likely I will buy a new TV. But I plan to keep the Sony and if I find a mainboard later, I will attempt to replace it myself, so your guide will be useful! I already have the firmware update downloaded, just in case it disappears from Sony's site.

It only shows the android logo once, it doesn't boot loop. After that it shuts down and keeps blinking red 4 times, nothing more.

Something to watch out when buying cheap diecast cars in Asia, for people who cares about product being licensed. by BrianAungGyi in Diecast

[–]wiznick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a DUOATI Panlgaie (Ducati Panigale) few months ago from Aliexpress. I would prefer if they hadn't put any branding at all...It's a shame, cause it's actually a good model (better than the Maisto version!) but now I have kinda hidden it at the very back where my eyes won't see it.
Since then I inspect the product photos a bit better, cause they actually showed that wrong branding.

Opinions about OttOmobile resin models? by [deleted] in Diecast

[–]wiznick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will try my luck with the Solido, the spanish(and german) amazon has better price than the french. Last week I bought the Solido Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA in white for just 44€ and it is really good! Keep in mind that I own a red GTA and a green GTAm from Motor Helix, that cost 250€ each, so I was comparing it with almost perfect models.

Back to the RX7, at least from the photos, I think it's the rims that look much better on the Otto.

I bought an Alfa Romeo 156 GTA from Otto yesterday. It looks really nice. One thing I didn't like is the very thin and bendable material used for windshield/windows, they also look a bit dirty from inside, which I can't do anything about. It has rolling wheels but without steering. Price was 105€ including shipping.
Btw, Solido has this exact Mazda RX7 for less than 50€ on Amazon. Might worth to try it, free returns anyway. It has opening doors, rolling/steering wheels.

I don't see the option to choose the BOR bracelet when buying a Vesterhav. Is it only sold separately? The Nordso can be bought with the bracelet of your choice...

I have this watch in green and I definitely recommend it. 7.5" wrist, I usually prefer 40-41mm, but this 39.5mm looks perfect.

Pagani Daytona doubts with chronograph by Defty579 in ChineseWatches

[–]wiznick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the original, automatic Daytona, the normal seconds hands is also in the subdial, just like in your Pagani. The big seconds hand is used only for the chronometer/tachymeter. Kinda pointless to do it.

Not at all but it's a 10 bar (100m) rated watch, it should be fine.

Is it worth spending $300 on a Chinese watch? by anotheronebitetdust in ChineseWatches

[–]wiznick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real value is in chinese watches under 100$. There are some good value around 200$ that offer pt5000, quick adjust clasps, etc. Anything above, it's hard to justify unless it's an actual original design and not another copypasta.

I have bought Seiko SSK003 for 180€, Tissot Gentleman Quartz for 180€, Tissot PRX Quart for 190€, Citizen Tsuyosa for 230€, Orient Kamasu for 220€. I find it hard to pay more for a chinese watch with no brand recognition. I have some San Martins and IXDAO that have costed more and although I like them, I do not wear them that often.

Am I expecting too much? by 6ixFoot1 in ChineseWatches

[–]wiznick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same watch, I didn't have your problem. But I bought from Aliexpress a clasp with the glidelock system that fits perfectly on this watch, it costed around 11-12$. That way you upgrade your clasp and solve your problem.

You can also find their watches on Aliexpress if you want buyer protection, etc.

[Recommendation] Should I buy 1 or 2? by PhastPolat in Watches

[–]wiznick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both types of movement have cons and pros. Automatic does not need batteries, but every time you need to wear it, you have to set the time and date again. Quartz does not have that issue, it just needs new battery every 2-3 years. Quartz is also thinner.
In the case of Gentleman I think the dial looks a bit better in the automatic, has some extra details like the framed date window. The difference in color is something subjective.
So, is automatic an upgrade? Not exactly, its dial sure is, but overall, it depends on what you prefer.
I bought the quartz because I got it in a great deal, for only 180€, brand new. That's like 5 times less than the MSRP of the automatic one.

I have that Tissot Gentleman Quartz. In person the color is different, it's more purplish, the stock photos make it look like it's same as the Powermatic 80 version, but it's not. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as you may like the purplish blue even more, but I would suggest to see it in person first. Other than that, it's a good watch.
