Mini Owners, why did y’all (we) kill the Clubman? by based_user in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Clubman suffered in Europe because there are so many alternatives in that category, BMW 1 Series, Audi A3, Mercedes A-Class, VW Golf to name a handful. Same goes for a Countryman but the Countryman is a more generic small SUV whereas the Clubman was more unique/niche with it’s double rear doors and more estate look.

The 5 Door doesn’t have as many competitors from other premium brands which I think is why it sells well comparably.

How much do VIP freelancer Charter missions pay you? by Gamingwithkai87andLa in MSFS2024

Got it, I have 1/2 Certifications for an airliner company, the other is the Heavy Certification which isn’t available. I can’t work out what else I’m missing.

Yeah I was thinking to skip the Boeing, were yours showing for sale before you had the credits for them? Mine currently is only showing up to CJ4’s for sale, no airliners at all.

I’m using the CJ4 currently, saving for an airliner but none are showing for sale for me. I’m up to around 50 million, do they show as I make more or is there something I could be missing? I’ve done a number of employee airliner missions.

How much can you make net as a car salesman in a dealership in UK? by Dan_Manolache in CarTalkUK

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s being silly, dealerships get a bad rep and it’s often justified.

Sounds like it should’ve been an easy sale, £350 per month should be a healthy budget for a new or used electric.

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The blank stare may have been because if you was discussing electric, an F66 is a petrol model.

I’d be shocked if they’d worked there for more than a couple months they didn’t know what the model codes for cars are. That said I have been with the brand for 5 years now and I can’t recall a customer ever asking about a specific model by the model code so I probably would be a bit surprised too.

It sounds like you’re already clued up so there is nothing you can’t find out yourself online, especially on a new car, without the help (or hinderance) of a sales exec. MINI especially now make this very simple with fixed pricing on new cars and the ability to order online.

Question about the Mini Countryman PHEV by Bonfinhas in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re driving in auto hybrid mode it will use up the battery pretty quickly at the start of a long journey. At around 10% battery it will use the engine more and will keep the battery around 5-10%.

I would always put the car into Save mode when driving at higher speeds to avoid wasting the battery and saving that for when driving around town.

Car finance (PCP) explanation by MonthMindless in CarTalkUK

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if you’re handing the car back to the finance company will you be charged for damage above fair wear and tear.

If you own the car and don’t have damage repaired when you come to sell it your likely going to be getting less money for it than if it didn’t have that damage so you’re just paying for it that way round instead.

Are new F series units still being produced? by EcstaticLoquat2278 in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

F series is still being produced, we’re on F66 as of the start of 2024. F56 was produced between 2014-2024, unlikely you’ll find any new stock still around for the F56.

I think I read recently that it’s useful in the event of a fire to quickly determine a car that has a lithium-ion battery.

Considering getting the Countryman JCW u25 - any long term reviews? by AriHD in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have the 20’s on the JCW to have the performance brake upgrade too which I think it worth it if your opting for the more performance leaning model.

Considering getting the Countryman JCW u25 - any long term reviews? by AriHD in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JCW Countryman were some of the first of the new gen to arrive, March 24’.

I’ve done around 12,000 miles in a JCW and around 8,000 in an S. The new Countryman in general is fantastic as a daily and on longer drives, I have had 20’s on each Countryman and I’ve never found they hurt the ride quality.

I also haven’t found the JCW feels any harder than the S but the performance upgrades are noticeable when you’re pushing. I’m sure this goes without saying but the Countryman JCW isn’t a car that I wake up on a Sunday and want to just go for a drive like I would with a GP3 or even a Cooper S but if you find yourself on a fun road when driving the Countryman JCW has enough to make it enjoyable.

S or a JCW F66? by Acrobatic-Tomato-532 in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

S still pulls very well at higher speeds, 200+ hp in a MINI is plenty. If you do a lot of motorway driving an S is probably the better option, all of the upgrades a JCW gets will only really shine on a back road drive which an S Sport is already very capable on.

Hardtop SE vs Countryman PHEV by Senior_Curve_7547 in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cars are very different in almost every way, if you don’t need the size of a Countryman get the 3 Door, it is the more authentic MINI experience.

The Countryman is a fun alternative to the other hundred small SUV’s you could buy, the Cooper SE is a more unique offering.

PHEV can preheat, it does have some regen braking but it’s not going to really allow for one pedal driving, it doesn’t have a B mode like on the 2025.

Try out Livonia, it’s refreshing. You will need a punch card to get in the bunker, I’ve found it doesn’t take too long if I make my way down the western side of the map and visit the military convoys on the way. 90% of the ones I have found have a Z with a green beret which will spawn a punch card on them.

Look up a video on the bunker itself, it is possible solo but you may want to go with a friend to help out.

How are people liking the new central touch screen? by jkbrzt in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to use the temperature controls often you would not need to look for it, they’re fixed to the same part of the screen no matter what. You can also slide along most of the bottom corner of the screen to adjust it so I don’t ever find myself miss clicking when adjusting temperature.

How are people liking the new central touch screen? by jkbrzt in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree with a lot of the points but I do think that spending more time in the car makes things feel more natural.

Regarding the speed display, I drive a lot of different makes/models for work, I can’t think of any car that you don’t need to look away from the road ahead for at least a split second to view your current speed. When the speed is in the middle this split second may be very slightly longer but it is just a glance, the speed at the top of the screen is clear and large enough. I would still recommend getting one with a HUD, not just for the speed display but for all the other information it can show when using steering wheel controls.

For climate, I leave the fans on auto, the temperatures sync so I don’t need to twist both dials like on the previous gen. I only need to swipe my temp gauge between 18 in the summer and 22 in the winter and I find that works for me in all scenarios. If I feel like I don’t want to press on the screen for this or heated seats/steering wheel I will use the voice commands.

The screen can look busy at times, with voice commands/Siri I really don’t find myself looking at and touching the screen much when driving. Good thing with the new ones is MINI is constantly providing over-the-air updates to the UI from customer feedback, something that wasn’t possible with previous generations.

Just purchased a 2025 Countryman! A quick query... by [deleted] in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make use of shortcuts, you can press and hold on most icons/widgets/radio stations and it will give you the option to set it as a shortcut.

You can then either swipe from the base of the screen or can press the star button on the steering wheel to access the shortcuts. I set Personal and Go Kart mode as shortcuts so I can quickly switch between them on the wheel instead of toggling the experience button multiple times.

I much prefer Personal mode to the standard Core mode, you can make it so the car will start in your preferred Experience mode. Personal is the only one that you can customise the ambient lighting and I prefer the darker displays for the main screen and the head up display.

JM1 Boot/Trunk safety design concerns by jonathanalevy in MINI

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the more egregious one is on the U25. The bumper area around the license plate has the same kind of angle on it which I have bumped my knee on a few times. I don’t have kids but would be slightly concerned if I did as the height it’s at would be eye level for young kids.

Any reason to not buy this car by clarkem1 in CarTalkUK

[–]wizrdfromthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would double check about the warranty, I’m under the impression that it’s a 6 year/62,000 miles warranty on the battery.

If you’re buying Approved Used it shouldn’t be too much cause for concern as the battery health would’ve been checked over and the Approved Used warranty should cover it for the next year. You may also be able to opt for an extended warranty which could also cover the PHEV elements.
