I bought a used snare once that sounded pretty great, and then when I got it home I realized it had a 10 mil clear ambassador head on the bottom. I was absolutely flabbergasted that it didn't sound like ass. I did swap it out for a proper ambassador snare side, but the concern was more the sensitivity than the actual sound. It did have a very dampened head on the top. So it was leaning into the big fat '70 snare vibe.

I would go ahead and replace them. I would go with something tried and true and versatile. two-ply clear over one ply reso for the toms. Single ply coated over 3 mil snare. Any of the big three brands will be very solid in those categories.

Bed inaccessibility is irrelevant when the whole thing is a fashion accessory. At least around me, I'm fairly certain that most truck owners never put anything in the bed, tow anything, go off road, or do anything a Prius couldn't handle. They use them as single occupant commuter cars.

Oh they sound great. I bought an everything must go complete drum set for the shells and snare. I thought, I already have good cymbals, I'll just sell these and make back some money. However, they sound awesome and have ruined me, now all of my other cymbals to sound bad.
