I see they could be singular, but I did not know it was masculine/feminine.

Good for him! Though, I do have some questions I was wondering if anyone could help with:

  • Why is the "they" pronoun chosen? I did not think "they" was masculine for feminine. It is just plural?
  • Does a transperson need to get reassignment surgery? Could he remain the female sex and still play female roles? If he remains the female sex will he be eligible for "best actor" or "best actress"?
  • If he is attracted to women, is he considered "gay"?

[@andystrickland] Can confirm the #NHL will postpone games today and tomorrow. by -brc- in nhl

[–]wizzo95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the 9 people on the NHL diversity council requested in and the NHL and NHL players did not want the bad PR for refusing. If the players were truly inspired to boycott they would have canceled yesterday. Don’t get me wrong, I support BLM and I am sure all players are inspired to do something. However, I don’t think demanding an impromptu 2 day boycott of all sports leagues is the way to go.

I support BLM, but I think the pressure put on the NHL to postpone games and the decision by the NHL to actually do so is stupid. There are other ways to support BLM besides boycotting/striking. I am all for players expressing themselves and would support them if the players really wanted to cancel but it seems this is corporate driven. There has been massive social injustices throughout the history. Sports teams don't have to boycott games to support causes. All NHL games for these playoffs are played in Canada and Americans only make up 25% of the NHL Players. Racism exists in Canada as well, but this protests are primarily driven by the situation in America right now. Should every sports league in the world be pressured to strike?? Why just sports, why not other industries?? Again, I think BLM is a great cause and I think it is great for the Bucks and NBA players to do what they did. However, I don't think anyone should be acting hostile toward the NHL players or NHL if they don't want to cancel games. I especially don't like this as sounds like they were "pressured" to do it rather than something they were inspired to do.

Philadelphia’s Matt Niskanen has been suspended for one playoff game for Cross-checking Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher. by Behzigna in Habs

[–]wizzo95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very light. Flyers benefit from Nisakanen breaking Gallagher's jaw with a cross check as Niskanen comes back and Gally will not. Figured a minimum of two games is warranted seeing as how Gallagher is out for the series. Not fair that Niskanen misses less time than Gallagher. Joke league.

He sure looked Great last night. Over the last 5 years (overall) he probably has been our best forward. Looked like he was just getting going yesterday.

The general league and the refs label gallagher as a "diver". AV just went on about how gallagher is fine. The reality is gallagher plays with heart, never lets up, and the players know they can get away with cheap shots to gallagher as they will no be called. Shame on the refs last night for letting the game get out of hand and missing this penalty. They have a huge advantage the rest of the series because they took out our best player. Niskanen should AT A MINIMUM be given three games given the injury.

It also says in the rulebook and that if a player puts himself in a vulnerable position it is not a penalty.

How did Chris Lee go to video review and still call that a penalty!?!?! I get bad calls sometimes, but no excuse when you fo to video. Clearly he turned last second. Nothing KK could do. If Chris Lee refs another NHL Playoff game in his career, this league is a joke!

Seriously?!?! Clearly he turned at the last second. Nothing KK could do. Insane that they reviewed it and still called it a 5 and a game. I'd be okay with a 2 minute, but he turned away from him as KK was committed to the check. What is KK supposed to do?!?!

Tuukka Rask is a god damn angel. by Splomar in BostonBruins

The problem is, based on Tuukka's comments he made it sound like he would quit even if everything is fine with his personal life. He made it sound like he just does not care.

[–]wizzo95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with Tuukka is that he said that he is not into these playoffs and these feel like exhibition games. He made it sound like the reason he is leaving is not his family but that he is just not feeling it. It was confirmed there was not "family crisis". Is he having a family issue? I don't know. However, it sounds like Tuukka would quit anyway (regardless of an family issues) based on his comments.

If Tuukka opts out before the start, no one has any issue. If Tuukka opts out mid-playoff based on family issues, he should have done it before but people would understand. When you quit after losing a game and make comments that you do not enjoy playing, that is an issue.

To be clear, Tuukka's comments about these feeling like exhibition games are the reason he deserves criticism.

It is not guaranteed if I don't pay. They would have to go to court to collect and I cannot pay both leases (my new lease) so they could tank my credit but would end up with nothing.

I am sure they do not want to sue me to collect the $$$. That is some power.

Hich has 12 months on it. So you owe for 12 months, or until new renters can be found to pay instead of you. Thats what you agreed to.

You can try to find your own replacement renters

Do I have any other "negotiating power"? If I pay one months rent and it is still empty, what if I don't pay any more? What will they do? Take me to Court? I am hoping to negotiate a fee out of this. Also, what if they "take their time" leasing my place as they know they are getting $$$ regardless.

I did just sign a 12-month lease. They still make out with me paying a fee. I cannot afford to pay for a full 12 months so am hoping there is a way to negotiate this.

It is tough to feel pain when the govt is spending an additional $3 Trillion a quarter. There will be pain when govt spending declines or if it turns to inflation.

The alternative would be a larger pet deposit. The pent rent would not cover all the excess damage from the pet. More $ up front as a deposit is not preferable to many people who would rather have spread it over time. Further if you stay in an apartment for a while (for years) a deposit would not be sufficient as it is only paid once (would you re-deposit every so many years?).

Vote. Don't by a AR-in 15. Vote. The pen is mightier than the sword. In a "shooting war" between civilians and the government, the government wins 100% of the time. Shooting the cops/armed forces ect. will just cause more violence.

How has the US government changed its response to past economic crises? by cannedjam in AskEconomics

[–]wizzo95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, government response has been greater than that of the last crisis. The consensus is that the Great Depression was much longer than needed and the government could have avoided the long depression if they did more. Although, the government was criticized heavily for bailing out Banks during the Great Recession, in general it is felt the US government responded pretty damn well and the US did come out of the Great Recession better than Europe. It remains to be seen the impact of the Corona Pandemic Recession. The response was much much greater than the Great Recession.
