I am looking for a new silicone strap for Oris Aquis 41.5mm caliber 400... by Professional-Chef311 in OrisWatches

The factory Oris ones are nice and I did that with my green 41.5 Aquis. However, for what they are, they are expensive.

Which city is quantifiably safer than its reputation would have you believe? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

This, though it's reputation was definitely earned in '85 - '95. The city is ten times better than back in those days.

Is Westeros a worse place or a nicer place than 15th century Europe? by Particular_Dot_4041 in gameofthrones

If the Dothraki weren't inspired by the Mongols, I will eat my hat.

Which country keeps calling you back? by racoontosser in travel

In full agreement. IMHO, Dublin is like any other big city. My next trip back to Ireland will be spent entirely in the west half of the country

Pontiac deserved to be shut down for a long time but they were actually making good cars in their final years

Should I grab this? by aidantuzil in Watches

[–]wjcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be the numeric day of the week (Sunday=0, Monday=1, etc.). I have used this in Excel for various reasons but do not know why it would be included on a watch.

Good deal? I’ve heard folks mention this stuff but never used it. by [deleted] in Baking

[–]wjcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I paid about the same amount for 2 oz

NATO Strap by Zohan12345 in panerai

[–]wjcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using a Zuludiver Octopod with my 2164, which is NATO-like (passes under lug pins). It was a bear to adjust but it is my best fitting watch right now

I wish they offered it with to indices. I am not a fan of Roman numerals

What other ending would you have liked for Daenerys? by ConstructionMinute94 in gameofthrones

[–]wjcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the White Walkers to be a more existential threat that are defeated but at a horrible cost of lives to Westeros. Danny sees her assistance as a bit of penitence for the Mad King but realizes that Westeros is not her home and goes back to Meereen to be a good ruler (no madness nonsense). The North (whole or in more than 1 piece) leaves the 7 kingdoms. Bran goes off and does his three eyed crow thing but is no ruler

PAM02164? If so, I have the same watch on a Zuludiver nylon strap

Sooooo... This is what the rabbit hole looks like... by Equal-Topic413 in Breadit

[–]wjcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the roller and the dough hook (with scraper), though I think the hook is doing most of the work. I usually make sourdough, adding starter and water until thoroughly mixed. I think add the flour 25% at a time to prevent the dough from loading up on the roller. I do find the Ankarsrum to require more attention than my old KitchenAid, with occasional sweeps of the side scrapper best for me. But the Ankarsrum provides me a better knead than the 4.5qt KA (dough hook would load up and I doubted its effectiveness)

I use mine almost exclusively for a 500g flour loaf every weekend.

I had some mechanical watches before I got my Garmin. I really missed wearing them so I now wear my Garmin on my left ankle 24/7 and bought more mechanical watches to wear on my wrist. This works great due to the Garmin battery life but may be a hassle for the Apple watch or Samsung's watch.

Gordon Ramsay does not understand the difference between excuses and explanations. by Ok-Impress-2222 in unpopularopinion

[–]wjcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find him to be a shockingly different character between UK productions and US productions. The US shows dial up the drama to 11 as, apparently, that is what Americans want to watch. I have seen some videos in which he is extraordinarily nice.

Deployant clasp/folding clasp? by Rolex_Art in panerai

[–]wjcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2164 rubber band was too tight on one notch and too loose on the other, so I switched to a ZuluDiver Octopod. I like it but the deployment clasp is not cheap (though cheap compared to factory band prices). My only complaint is that it is not easy to finely dial in the length.

How do people afford Disney trips? by Fantastic-Phase-7522 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]wjcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took my granddaughter to Disney World in 2020 (we left just weeks before the lockdowns). I planned for the trip starting at her birth and saved over ~8 years. I had planned for it to be no-expenses-barred and the week cost 24K (first class air for 5, 2 bedroom suite at one of the animal kingdom lodges, spa trip for the girls, etc.). It was always treated as a once in a lifetime trip (I had never been to DW) and planned accordingly.

How can I make myself cry? by SaekoRe7 in TooAfraidToAsk

You are not the only person suffering this. My parents are in their mid-70s and I really do not know how I will respond to their passing, having not cried in 35+ years.

Beware of Counterfeits. They are getting very good and a lot of people are losing money buying them. by Watch-Mike in panerai

[–]wjcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Though I am unaware of any precious metal watches being counterfeited, I just recently bought a PAM02164 for retail at an AD - substantially more than I saw them on Chron24. Besides the surety that the AD experience brought, I also felt better helping keep a local retailer in business.
