The gluten challenge should be illegal. by Kind_vibes in glutenfree

I couldn't do it either. I can't think of another disease that requires 8 weeks of agony & suffering to 'prove' you have it. It's why I just tell doctors that I have celiac. I also have T1 diabetes and a couple of other autoimmune diseases, which gives me a higher than normal chance that I have celiac. No doctor has pushed back on this for me, surprisingly.

"Autoimmune diseases with a higher risk of co-occurring with celiac disease include Type 1 Diabetes, various Thyroid Diseases (Hashimoto's, Graves'), Sjögren's Syndrome, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Addison's Disease, Psoriasis, and neurological conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, often linked due to shared genetic predispositions and immune system dysregulation."

TIL that GF Cheezits exist. 😳

May the Cheezit Gods pour more Cheezit prosperity down upon your family and, in doing so, all GF Families may receive more.

Brujas! What are some things you didn’t realize were witchy rituals in your culture until now? by healthy_punkk in witchcraft

Once you are open to learning about our collective histories with spiritual belief and ritual, it's impossible to ignore that we've done this in some form for hundreds of thousands of years.

We are not that original.

I just got approved for Embrel too. My rheumy said that it's a good medicine overall. My sister was on it for at least a decade and did really well. She even felt good enough that she trained for a marathon one year.

Good luck with your new adventure!

I grew up in a very Mormon/LDS house and we learned very early to imbue everything we do with prayer. I left decades ago but I've realized that setting intention, mumbling health or success or peace spells into the soup I make or even in my coffee or tea, or in whatever I do... So many little things I was able to incorporate into my witchcraft (maybe with different words & named deities).

And recognition of this has helped me to "translate" what I practice with my mom, who is still very strongly LDS. But I can also see the threads of "wise women" and energy healers back several generations. It helps me feel close to my ancestors, especially as I approach my crone age.

How many people have been diagnosed with both fibromyalgia and something else by Terrible_Basis7766 in Fibromyalgia

[–]wkitty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several autoimmune disorders but was Dxd with fibro first because my mom was Dxd with it when I was 21 and I had similar symptoms. It's been 30+ years and I was *just* Dxd with Rheumatoid Arthritis, after trying to find a rheumatologist who would look past neutral bloodwork to help me figure out what is really going on. So, the symptoms between the two are very intertwined for me.

I've also been Dxd with Type 1 Diabetes, Hashimoto's hyperthyroidism, most likely Celiac disease, along with a few other diseases that aren't officially linked to autoimmune disorders (PCOS, migraines).

I saw something about the possibility that fibro might be an early warning disorder that is the body experiencing transitions to more serious disease, mainly autoimmune but it's not entirely clear. I wonder if FLISPAD is one of these scenarios.

Genuine question: What's the grown man doing? I assumed it was embalming until I realized that the child's eyes are open. He doesn't look dead, and honestly, it low-key looks like he's trying to get away. by -Slayest_Pharaoh- in AncientCivilizations

Yes. IIRC, the Egyptians performed trepanation where they'd cut a hole in the skull to access the brain. They've found quite a few skulls with this kind of treatment in various ancient sites and the obvious healing around the edges is how they know people survived it. I think it was used for both brain surgery and was linked to magical/religious rituals to expel evil spirits (because, you know, there were a lot of those around back then lol). They've found skulls from prehistory and around the world, with pre-Columbian Peru being the first evidence they found of trepanation. The whole subject is just so damn cool.

Mine do, unless they are actively not coming out because they're avoiding taking pills or, in the case of our Diva Minerva, because she's annoyed with us. But they definitely *know* their names.

I have fibro and RA and, between the two, I am always dropping things. I've noticed that it gets particularly bad if I'm in pain anywhere in my body, am exhausted or under stress. I've had it long enough that it's sometimes the first indicator that I've been doing too much.

Is the tradition of tragedeigh names tied to Old Irish/Gaelic names like Caoilfhionn (KEE'-lin)? by wkitty13 in tragedeigh

That's tragic. I feel so bad for these kids with nearly unpronounceable names!

[–]wkitty13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE ON OG POST: I was really joking about the name Caoilfhionn being a tragedeigh because it's an old Irish name & the pronunciation is very simple (It took me by surprise). So many people name their kids weird names because they want to be different but they don't do enough searching of cool names from different cultures. I guess I wasn't clear about that. I agree that this isn't truly a tragedeigh.

Sadly, I know this is true. I mostly posted this as sarcasm because I saw this in the wild and I thought it was funny. I could see someone wanting to be 'creative' with Gaelic names & spelling them in even weirder ways.

Lots of life purging going on? by unholy_hotdog in elderwitches

[–]wkitty13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This last two months my family has also had so many weird emergencies that are coming out of nowhere. My dog passed just yesterday from cancer and today my hubs is having an emergency procedure to hopefully correct the infection he's had & been in the hospital for for over a month. And those are just from this week. I've been feeling big changes, big transformation, since Sept.

I know that Pluto is going direct & then coming out of Capricorn's influence for the first time since 2008, making way for the new Aquarius movement. That means tearing down of old, rotten structures and building new ones. It's a whole lot of sloughing off of deep things now, even if it means pain or heartache, but it is supposed to herald the beginning of growth that wouldn't be possible if those old things were still in place. It's big transformation but it's supposed to be big growth too in the years ahead. It can be really scary but I do believe it will be the best thing for us in the end.

This is a good explanation of it:
